Hello, my friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood.
Today’s writing prompt—“Where do you see yourself in 10 years?”—is a deeply thought-provoking question.
As I sit here, sipping my favorite cup of green tea, I must admit it stirred something within me.
I am 66 today. At this stage, people often think about slowing down, stepping back, or even simply waiting.
But life doesn’t always follow our expectations — it dances to its own rhythm. So when I think of the next 10 years, I don’t think of an end… I think of possibilities. I think of purpose.
Yes, I know nothing is guaranteed — not even tomorrow. But isn’t that the very reason to dream today?

✨ Seeing the Future Through a Creative Lens
If I were to paint a picture of myself at 76, I see a man still young at heart. My hair might be fully silver, and the lines on my face a little deeper, but my soul? Ah, it will still twirl to music, dance with ideas, and sparkle with curiosity.
I see myself sitting in a cozy study, walls adorned with my own vibrant paintings, a bookshelf heavy with the weight of my own books — stories, poems, and memories.
There will be a little writing desk by the window, the kind that invites sunrise reflections and moonlit musings.
I would like to be known not just as a retired banker, but as a storyteller, a poet, an artist — someone who embraced the second innings with grace and fire.

🖋 Still Writing, Still Dreaming
In 10 years, I wish to have written more books — not for fame, but for legacy. For the child who reads one of my poems and feels seen.
For the lonely heart that finds comfort in my words. For the future me, who can look back and say — “I made something beautiful out of life.”
I want my blog, retiredkalam.com, to be a vibrant space, brimming with ideas, art, and inspiration. I hope to still be waking up with that same excitement — “What should I write today?”
Because creativity is not a thing of youth, it’s a thing of passion. And that, I will never run out of.
🏞 A Home of Peace, A Life of Purpose
In 10 years, I hope to live in a home filled with light, surrounded by nature. Maybe a small garden blooming with mint, tulsi, and flowers that my granddaughter picks.
A space where birds chirp my morning melodies and the scent of old books lingers in the air.
I want to be the storyteller of my family, sharing tales of love, loss, resilience, and laughter.
I want my granddaughter to sit by my side and ask, “Dada, can you tell me another story?” And I’ll tell her not just one, but many — for she will be the carrier of my legacy.

💪 Health, Happiness, and Helping Hands
Of course, to dream 10 years ahead, I must also nurture this vessel called the body. I envision myself healthier — walking, stretching, meditating, dancing (yes, still dancing with my beloved!). I’ll keep my mind sharp with reading, puzzles, and passionate conversation.
And I want to help. Help others find their voice. Mentor someone who’s afraid to pick up the pen. Encourage another retired soul to chase forgotten dreams. I want to be a light — not a spotlight, but a gentle lantern in someone’s dark corner.
🌟 If Not Now, Then When?
We often avoid such questions, thinking they’re meant for the young — the 20s, the 30s, the “planners.” But this question is perhaps even more important for someone like me. Because dreaming at 66 is not naïve — it is brave.
Where do I see myself in 10 years?
Alive. Laughing. Creating. Loving. Giving.

A Decade from Now
Even if I’m not here physically, I hope my words will live on. I hope someone reads an old poem of mine and smiles. I hope a painting on a wall makes a stranger pause and feel something. That, my friend, is immortality in its own way.
To conclude about how long we live…
Life has never been about how long we live, but how well we live. And if the next 10 years are gifted to me, I will not waste them in regret or fear. I will fill them with colors, stories, kindness, and the endless wonder of “what’s next?”
So, where do you see yourself in 10 years? Don’t be afraid of the question. Answer it with hope. Answer it with heart.
And let’s walk toward that vision — one joyful, soulful step at a time.
With love and faith,
Mr. Verma
