Friends, today marks the 76th Republic Day, a celebration that resonates deeply with the spirit of a united and proud India.
On this day in 1950, our Constitution, the bedrock of our nation, came into effect under the visionary guidance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
This momentous occasion shaped the destiny of India, transforming it into a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.
It’s a day of joy and enthusiasm as we reflect on the principles, duties, and rights enshrined in our Constitution, shaping the identity of every Indian citizen.
Our Constitution is not merely a document but a symbol of the values, hopes, and dreams of our forefathers. Honoring and upholding this sacred text is not just a responsibility but a fundamental duty for all citizens.
Celebrations at the Bank
At our bank branches, the tricolor flag was proudly hoisted every Republic Day. The event was marked by a sense of pride, joy, and camaraderie as sweets were shared, and the significance of this day was celebrated with enthusiasm.
It was more than a ceremony; it was a reminder of the unity and collective spirit that binds us all as Indians.

An Unexpected Incident at Muzaffarpur Branch
Allow me to share an incident that unfolded during my tenure at the Muzaffarpur branch, which left an indelible mark on me.
As the branch manager was on leave, I was entrusted with the responsibility of hoisting the flag on Republic Day. It was an honor, but it came with its challenges.
That year, Republic Day fell on a Saturday. After the flag-hoisting ceremony in the morning, I planned to travel to Patna that evening, as Sunday was a holiday.
However, a critical question arose—who would take down the flag in the evening as required by law? Taking down the flag within the stipulated time is not just a rule but a mark of respect for our national symbol.
A creative solution came from an unexpected source—our branch security guard. Despite living a few kilometers away, he volunteered to return in the evening, take down the flag, and secure it at the branch.
Relieved, I hoisted the tricolor with pride and set off for Patna, confident that the matter was in capable hands.
A Twist of Fate
However, fate had other plans. By afternoon, the guard fell ill with a high fever, making it impossible for him to fulfill his promise.
In those days, mobile phones were non-existent, and the only means of urgent communication was a trunk call. Somehow, the guard managed to relay the situation to his neighbor, who informed me via a trunk call at around 5 PM.
Panic set in. The legal requirement to lower the flag by sunset loomed large, and time was running out. If I didn’t act immediately, I would face legal consequences.
Despite the daunting distance of 80 kilometers between Patna and Muzaffarpur, I decided to rush back to the branch. Anxiety gripped me during the journey as I envisioned the potential repercussions.

A Surprising Revelation
I reached the branch around 8 PM, my heart racing with apprehension. To my dismay, I found the flag missing.
Just as panic threatened to overwhelm me, I noticed a familiar face approaching—Madan Babu, the owner of the building where our branch was located.
Seeing my distressed demeanor, Madan Babu smiled reassuringly. He revealed that he had noticed the flag still hoisted in the evening and, understanding its significance, had taken it down himself and secured it safely.
Relief washed over me like a tidal wave. I couldn’t help but smile at this unexpected twist and the sense of responsibility shown by Madan Babu.
A Lesson in Resilience and Unity
As we celebrate the 75th Republic Day, this incident reminds me of the resilience and unity that define our nation.
It underscores the importance of collective responsibility and the unexpected ways in which challenges can be resolved when individuals step up for the greater good.
Let us take inspiration from such moments and continue to uphold the values of our Constitution—justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Together, we can ensure that the spirit of a united India shines brightly for generations to come.
Join us in witnessing history unfold—a tapestry woven with pride, unity, and the indomitable spirit of India. JAI HIND!
