My Craving for Dark Chocolate and an Unforgettable Evening

Daily writing prompt
What snack would you eat right now?

A Sweet Nostalgia:

Hello, my friends,

I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood! Today’s writing prompt question feels quite nostalgic: “What snack would you eat right now?”

Well, I can’t resist the thought of a bar of dark chocolate from my childhood. There’s nothing better than taking that first bite and savoring the bold yet sweet taste of dark chocolate dancing on my taste buds.

Speaking of chocolates, I recently had the pleasure of visiting a chocolate factory, which turned out to be an enchanting experience I’d love to share with you.

I recently revisited Delhi, exactly a year after my last trip, and during this stay, I explored various places.

However, yesterday’s visit to a unique spot called Dhan Mill was the highlight of my trip. It was my first time experiencing this vibrant space, and it left me absolutely mesmerized.

Let me take you through my journey and introduce you to this treasure trove of culture, art, and flavors.

Dhan Mill, once a warehouse and granary, has been transformed into an aesthetically vibrant destination for shopping, dining, and exploring art.

The story behind its evolution is fascinating.

R. K. Jain, the owner of a family-run agricultural grain mill business in Chhattisgarh, moved to Delhi in 1960. He invested in a property in South Delhi’s Chhatarpur area, establishing a rice mill and storage facility.

Initially, the business faced losses for six consecutive years. However, a few years ago, this abandoned space was reimagined into a creative hub, successfully blending art, fashion, and food.

For days when you need a relaxed and chill outing, Dhan Mill offers an ideal escape. One of its highlights is Palette, a café that marries art with food.

Its pleasant music, authentic Italian, Lebanese, and Mexican cuisines, and the ambiance of paintings and canvases make it a haven for artists and food lovers alike.

What made my evening even sweeter was my visit to Colocal, a bean-to-bar chocolate factory and café nestled within the Dhan Mill Compound.

As soon as I entered around 6:30 PM, I was greeted by lush greenery, cozy dining areas, and the irresistible aroma of chocolate.

Colocal is truly a chocolate lover’s dream come true. I indulged in their 65% hot chocolate, which tasted like pure, melted chocolate—rich and smooth. I also tried their Margherita sourdough, which quickly became my favorite.

For dessert, I couldn’t resist their chocolate tart topped with cacao nibs and a flourless chocolate cake that was fudgy, gooey, and perfectly paired with a cappuccino.

They offer a wide variety of vegan options, along with pasta and burgers, leaving me excited to visit again soon.

My curiosity led me to explore the first floor of the factory, where the chocolate-making process unfolds.

The friendly staff explained every step, and I learned that Colocal is one of the first chocolate roasters in India.

After the informative tour, I even got to visit their bakery, where the scent of fresh dough filled the air.

Before leaving, I couldn’t resist buying some chocolates to share with friends and family. The desserts and chocolates here aren’t just treats—they’re experiences that leave lasting impressions.

Dhan Mill is more than just a destination; it’s an experience that combines art, luxury, and flavors under one roof.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a foodie, or simply someone who loves exploring unique spaces, Dhan Mill has something for everyone.

So, if you’re ever in Delhi and looking for a vibrant evening getaway, make sure to visit this hidden gem.

And if you, like me, crave dark chocolate, don’t miss the magical experience at Colocal. It’s bound to leave you with sweet memories and a desire to return.
Happy exploring!

  1. Oh wow! What a treat! Yes, chocolate flourless cake is a favorite of mine that I don’t get very often! And I love that 65% hot chocolate! Another thing I rarely get but now, my daughter tells me she adds two Hershey chocolate kisses to one cup of regular hot chocolate and it’s very close! I have not tried that yet.

Speaking of chocolate factory tours, I went on a Hershey chocolate tour when I was young and it was the best! So, if you ever visit the USA, go to Hershey, Pennsylvania and take their chocolate factory tour. It’s like being in Willy Wonka world! Haha!

    • Oh wow! That sounds absolutely delightful! 😍
A Hershey chocolate tour must have been an incredible experience—like stepping right into a chocolate lover’s dream!
I can imagine it being a real-life Willy Wonka adventure, filled with sweet aromas and endless treats. 🍫✨

I love the idea of adding Hershey’s kisses to regular hot chocolate—your daughter is a genius! I might just have to try that trick soon.
And if I ever get the chance to visit the USA, Hershey, Pennsylvania will definitely be on my list.
Until then, I’ll keep savoring my 65% hot chocolate and dreaming of chocolate-filled adventures! 😄

    • It sounds like you’re caught in that all-too-relatable tug-of-war between indulgence and staying healthy!
Maybe it’s time to embrace the philosophy of “balance is key.”
Treat yourself to that tempting delight but pair it with a brisk walk or a fun activity later.
After all, life is too short to skip chocolate entirely—just savor it mindfully! 😊

  5. That was a wonderful experience. It was nice to read about something good in Delhi. There is a lot that is good. My father was working in the Indian Railways and we lived there from 1970 to 79. But now we read so much about the pollution there. Thank you for sharing.

    • Thank you for sharing your memories of Delhi—it must have been such a unique experience to live there during that time, especially with your father working in the Indian Railways! 🚂✨
Delhi truly has a lot to offer, from its rich history and vibrant culture to hidden gems like Dhan Mill.

While pollution is indeed a challenge today, it’s heartening to see efforts being made to address it. I hope more positive changes come about to restore Delhi’s charm for everyone. Your kind words mean a lot—thank you, and I’m glad I could bring back some good memories for you! 😊
