# Magic of Childhood Treasure Box #

Daily writing prompt
Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

My Childhood Treasure Box

Childhood is a magical time, brimming with endless possibilities and secret wonders. For me, there was one item that I held closest to my heart—my treasure box.

It wasn’t an ornate wooden chest with intricate carvings and no shiny lock. Instead, it was a simple tin box, very old and slightly dented at the edges, which once held cookies but later became a vault for my most prized possessions, my memories.

Even now, the thrill of opening it is incomparable. Inside, nestled amongst the faded lining, lies a collection of treasures that only a child could truly appreciate.

A Journey Through Memories

Colorful marbles (Kancha), smooth and cool to the touch, tumble out. Seashells, collected during a family beach trip, whisper tales of the ocean breeze.

And then there’s the diary, its pages adorned with dried flowers from my childhood friend, Sita (whose whereabouts I’ve long since forgotten).

The diary, filled with notes written in my shaky, childish handwriting, captures the essence of a bygone era. Each item holds a story, a connection to a moment in time that I desperately wanted to preserve.

One particular treasure holds a special place in my heart: a small, heart-shaped locket gifted to me by my childhood friend, Sita on my eighth birthday. Though it holds no photographs, it is imbued with her love and warmth.

Every time I hold it, I feel her presence, as if she is whispering words of love and affection.

Whenever I scroll through the pages of that diary, a small notebook filled with my childish thoughts, dreams, and secret wishes, I’m transported back to that magical time.

I would often write about my aspirations: to travel the world, to become an artist. The box wasn’t just a container; it was a portal to my imagination and aspirations.

As life moved forward, filled with school, exams, and the growing demands of adulthood, the treasure box gradually faded from my attention. It was eventually tucked away in the attic, forgotten amidst other relics of childhood.

Years later, while cleaning out old storage, I stumbled upon the dusty tin box. Opening it felt like stepping into a time capsule.

The faded diary pages, the marbles (Kancha) that had lost their luster, and the locket that still gleamed faintly – all brought back a flood of emotions. I laughed at the silly notes and admired the raw innocence captured in those pages.

The treasure box didn’t regain its original status as my most prized possession, but it transformed into something even more valuable: a reminder of who I once was and how far I’ve come.

I decided to keep it, not just as a keepsake, but as a testament to the dreams and values that shaped my journey.

This old tin box taught me a profound lesson: the objects we cherish in childhood are often less about their material worth and more about the emotions they carry. They serve as anchors to our past, helping us reconnect with the purity of our younger selves.

For anyone reading this, I encourage you to revisit those childhood treasures if you still have them. Open that old drawer or dusty box and relive those moments of wonder.

Sometimes, it’s in those forgotten corners that we rediscover parts of ourselves we thought we had lost.

In the end, my treasure box may not hold any real jewels, but it remains priceless in my heart. It reminds me that while we grow older and move forward, the memories we make and the dreams we dare to dream are eternal treasures worth holding on to.
