Hello, my friends!
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood. Today’s writing prompt question resonates deeply with all of us: Is your life today what you pictured a year ago?
It’s a thought-provoking inquiry that nudges us to evaluate our growth, aspirations, and reality.
A year ago, most of us had dreams, goals, or at least a vague vision of where we wanted to be. Perhaps you dreamed of a new job, better health, closer relationships, or personal accomplishments.
But life, as it often does, tends to take us on an unpredictable journey. Let me share my reflections, combining heartfelt experiences with a dash of introspection.
Dreaming of the Future
Last year, I envisioned a life filled with creativity and purpose. My primary goals revolved around expanding my writing, experimenting with painting, and embracing a healthier lifestyle.
I promised myself to publish 1,500 blogs, complete 51 artistic projects, and find balance in my daily routine.
I also pictured spending more time with family, especially cherishing moments with my granddaughter.
These aspirations weren’t overly ambitious but required consistent effort and dedication. So, how did my year turn out? Let’s evaluate.
The Reality Check
Life’s journey is rarely linear. Looking back, I realize that some aspects unfolded just as I envisioned, while others took a different course. Here are a few highlights:

Creative Pursuits
In the realm of writing and painting, I feel a sense of accomplishment. Over the past year, I published blogs regularly, achieving a remarkable 1,006 blogs. These covered diverse topics like health, self-reflection, and happiness.
Writing became my daily ritual, offering me joy and a platform to connect with readers. Additionally,
I delved into abstract painting, completing 31 pieces this month alone! While I fell short of my ambitious target of 51, the journey of creativity enriched my life beyond measure.
Above all, my two books, Meri Kalam Se and Adhuri Prem Kahani, were published and are now available on Amazon. These milestones make me proud of the progress I’ve made.

Health and Wellness
On the health front, I made progress, though not without challenges. Regular exercise became a part of my routine, and I even experimented with kayaking—an adventurous twist I hadn’t planned!
My thyroid condition, a decade-long battle, remained a persistent companion, but my commitment to a healthier lifestyle helped me manage it better. I’m not where I hoped to be entirely, but the progress is worth celebrating.
Family Time
Family was at the heart of my aspirations, and I’m grateful for the moments I spent with loved ones.
Whether it was visiting the sea beach with my partner, sharing laughter with my granddaughter, or enjoying serene meals together, these memories became the cornerstone of my happiness.

Unexpected Surprises
Not everything went as planned. Life threw its share of surprises, from spontaneous trips to Darjeeling and Gangtok to finding solace in nature’s beauty.
These unplanned experiences brought joy, adventure, and lessons I hadn’t anticipated.
Lessons Learned
Reflecting on the past year, I’ve realized a few important truths:
- Dreams are dynamic: While having a vision is essential, it’s equally important to adapt and embrace life’s detours.
- Progress over perfection: Even if you fall short of your goals, every step forward counts. Celebrate small wins!
- Gratitude is key: Appreciating the present moment and the people around you makes life more meaningful.

Looking Ahead
So, is my life today what I pictured a year ago? Partially, yes. But in many ways, it’s richer and more fulfilling because of the unexpected twists and turns.
A year ago, I couldn’t have foreseen the depth of my artistic growth, the joy of exploring new places, or the strength I gained from challenges.
As I plan for the year ahead, I’m reminded to dream big but remain flexible. Life’s beauty lies in its unpredictability, and every moment offers an opportunity to grow.
Now, I’d love to hear from you. Is your life today what you envisioned a year ago? Share your reflections, and let’s inspire each other to keep dreaming and striving.

Oh, what amazing progress you have made this year, Mr. Verma! I am so happy for you and the ripple effects this has brought to ALL who know you! Two books published this year?!? I didn’t even complete the one I started writing last year yet (I am setting myself a publishing date for next June).
This was my first year of retirement and I have been lazy, though we did make a big move and have had to restructure my time now that we live next door to our three granddaughters! Haha! I kept up with a book club I am in and have taken several art classes (and also began kayaking), but I could accomplish more.
You inspire me!
I think your a good artist!

Thank you so much for your kind words and heartfelt encouragement! Your message truly warmed my heart.
Yes, it’s been an incredible year of progress, and I feel so grateful for the opportunities and creative flow that have come my way.
Publishing two books was a dream come true, and I’m sure you’ll experience the same joy when your book is completed. Setting a publishing date for next June is a fantastic goal—congratulations on taking that step! I have no doubt it will be worth the wait, and I can’t wait to hear about your progress.😊
Your first year of retirement sounds like it’s been filled with beautiful transitions and meaningful activities. Moving to live next door to your three granddaughters? That’s a treasure beyond measure! The joy and energy that little ones bring into our lives are truly unmatched. They must adore having you close by, and I can imagine the wonderful memories you’re creating together.
Joining a book club, exploring art classes, and starting kayaking are wonderful accomplishments. Retirement isn’t about rushing or comparing—it’s about embracing this new chapter in your own unique way. It sounds to me like you’re laying the foundation for a fulfilling and inspiring journey ahead.
I’m thrilled to hear that you find inspiration in my journey—it’s mutual! Your warmth and enthusiasm are infectious. And thank you for appreciating my art; it’s been a wonderful outlet for expression and creativity.

A ‘treasure beyond measure’ is a grand expression, Mr. Verma. I actually feel like my daughter is more excited (so far) for me to be here than the granddaughters do. But we shall see! The girls are 13 and 8 year old twins. I don’t write much about them to protect their privacy (their parents’ idea). And I agree. Though I often wonder if my readers think I am not proud of them. I love them all dearly! I treasure every moment! I have waited years to be here and never thought I would be.
So, yes, I understand about accepting retirement (and this time of life) for ALL it offers.
I have published other books but this current one is much more challenging. It involves a lot of research. I will be thrilled to complete it. Thank you very much for your encouragement! I appreciate you find my writing warm and enthusiastic! Yay!

Your reply brought a smile to my face. It’s wonderful to hear how deeply you treasure this new chapter of your life. I can imagine the joy and anticipation you must feel being so close to your granddaughters now. Thirteen and twin eight-year-olds—that sounds like such a lively, dynamic household! Though they may not show it outright yet, I’m sure your presence will become an anchor of love and support for them as they grow. Your daughter’s excitement speaks volumes about the value you bring to their lives.
I completely understand your choice to respect their privacy—that’s a beautiful and thoughtful gesture. And rest assured, your readers can surely sense your love for them, even in the subtle ways you describe your journey and the joy of being close to family. Sometimes, love speaks the loudest in the quietest actions.
It’s inspiring to hear about your publishing experience and how this new book is pushing you to stretch your limits. Research-heavy writing can indeed be daunting, but it’s also so rewarding. The sense of accomplishment when it all comes together will be worth every moment of effort, I’m sure! I admire your dedication and perseverance.
Retirement, as you beautifully put it, offers so much to embrace—new adventures, deeper relationships, and opportunities to revisit dreams we once had to set aside. I have no doubt you’ll continue to make the most of this time in your unique and meaningful way.
With warm regards and encouragement,
