Daily writing prompt
What are you curious about?

“Today’s writing prompt question is intriguing: “What are you curious about?” Curiosity is the spark that ignites the flame of knowledge, the engine that drives progress, and the key that unlocks the doors to new worlds.

It’s the childlike wonder that makes us look at the stars and wonder what’s beyond, the insatiable thirst that pushes scientists to unravel the mysteries of the universe, and the persistent itch that artists scratch through their creations.

Today, I am reflecting on one thing that stirs my curiosity and drives me to explore, learn, and grow.”

Travel, there’s a restlessness in my soul, a magnetic pull towards horizons unknown. It’s a yearning to escape the ordinary, to immerse myself in the extraordinary.

Yes, I love traveling. For me, travel is more than just visiting new places; it’s an exploration of the self, a pilgrimage to the heart of humanity. With every step I take in a foreign land, I peel back layers of my own preconceptions, revealing a world brimming with diversity, beauty, and resilience.

My First International Journey

Today, I want to share my experience of my first international journey to Bangkok. My adventure began in Patna(My native place), from where I had to travel to Delhi with about 40 colleagues from my bank, as this tour was organized by our bank.

Our flight landed on time at Delhi Airport, and we met all our group members and the caretaker there. However, they all looked sad because the flight to Bangkok, which was scheduled for tonight, had been canceled.

The airline informed us that another flight would now depart at 6 AM the next morning. Honestly, I was quite happy to hear this because I was even more scared of traveling at night.

The airline arranged for us to stay at a hotel overnight, so after having some tea, we headed to “Hotel Radisson.”

I was secretly happy to know that the night flight was canceled. “Hotel Radisson” was a five-star hotel, and I was getting the chance to spend the night (Free of cost) in such a luxurious place for the first time. I felt very excited.

After reaching the hotel, I took a bath to freshen up and then saw that it was already 9 PM. I had to go down to the hotel’s restaurant for dinner.

Just then, I noticed my room partner sitting on the sofa in the room, drinking red wine. I asked him in surprise, “Where did you get alcohol at this time?”

He replied, “There are a lot of things to eat and drink in the fridge in front of us, including alcohol. Since the hotel room is free, these things must be free too. So, I’m having a little drink before dinner.”

I held my head and, glaring at him, said, “You will have to pay extra for all the items kept in the fridge. These things are not free.” The foreign alcohol was expensive too. Hearing about the costly affair, his drunkenness disappeared as quickly as it had come.

Realizing his mistake, he said, “I made a mistake. I’ll be careful from now on.” Saying this, he came with me to the dining hall for dinner.

When we reached the restaurant’s dining hall, I was amazed to see so many dishes. Truly, a five-star hotel is something else. Since it was a buffet system, we could eat whatever and however much we wanted. All the group members had arrived, and we were all very hungry.

So, we all started eating voraciously. The food was so delicious that I ate more than usual. Then, I noticed the desserts – about thirty varieties were laid out. Seeing this, I was tempted to eat the sweets, and I couldn’t resist my favorite gulab jamun. I enjoyed my favorite sweets too.

My dinner for the night was indeed more than enough. Just then, my room partner came over with ice cream and sat next to me to eat it. I also wanted to have ice cream, but then I reminded myself that I still had the rest of the trip to enjoy.

After that, I returned to my room and collapsed on the bed. As soon as I lay down on the soft bed, I fell asleep instantly and started dreaming about touring Bangkok.

When I woke up in the morning, I saw a faint glimmer of sunlight through the window. I jumped out of bed, looked at the clock, and found that it was already 8 AM. The thought of missing my flight struck me like lightning. The departure time was at 6 AM. Maybe someone knocked on the door to wake me up, but due to fatigue, I didn’t wake up.

My room partner was still sleeping soundly on the nearby bed. I angrily shook him awake and said, “We missed our flight to Bangkok!” As soon as my words reached his ears, he jumped up in panic and asked, “What will happen now?”

Just then, I noticed the morning newspaper slipped under the door. When I picked up the newspaper, there was also a sealed envelope. Ignoring the newspaper, I opened the envelope out of curiosity. My heart was pounding. The envelope contained a message: “Your flight is delayed by five hours. It will now depart at 11 AM.”

Now, I felt reassured that the foreign trip would indeed happen. My room partner and I quickly got ready for the rest of the journey, and we all reached the airport on time. From here, the journey to Bangkok was to be completed in four hours by flight.

Security checking was over, but my nervousness increased. The Thai Airlines plane was visible through the window. I tried to calm myself by reminding myself that many people were traveling with me in the group, so there was nothing to be afraid of. We should enjoy the journey.

Unfortunately, I got a window seat, which made me determined to enjoy the scenic beauty outside. If I had exchanged the window seat with someone, my weakness would have been revealed, and I might have become the subject of jokes.

Soon, the flight was taking off. At that moment, I felt a bit of anxiety but then mustered the courage to look out the plane window and appreciate the beautiful view, which calmed my nerves. Seeing the fluffy white clouds like a cotton blanket outside, I was thrilled and started capturing the scenic view on my mobile.

We completed the visa formalities and exited through Gate No. 8. A tourist bus and guide had been pre-booked. We immediately departed for Pattaya by the same bus, and after a three-hour journey, we reached Pattaya. We gathered at the hotel counter for check-in formalities.

After completing the paperwork, we were given room keys. However, this time, my room partner changed. The hotel had pre-assigned rooms for two people each, based on their register.

It was already 10 PM, and I felt tired and hungry. The hotel was beautiful. After placing our luggage in the room, we all gathered at the hotel’s restaurant for dinner. I was feeling very sleepy while eating.

After quickly finishing my meal, I went to my room and directly to bed. As soon as I closed my eyes, I fell asleep. But a short while later, I woke up to the sound of my new room partner snoring loudly. The noise was so intense that I couldn’t fall asleep despite trying.

I started tossing and turning, remembering my old room partner. I shook him once or twice to stop his snoring, but after a brief silence, he would start again. This way, I spent the whole night playing this game of cat and mouse.

Despite having such a beautiful hotel and a comfortable bed, I spent the night tossing and turning. This was my first bitter experience of its kind. At one point, I got so angry that I kicked him, but he didn’t wake up. He was fast asleep.

Since this true story is long enough, I will continue in the next blog. (The link is given below)

Now, coming to the point, the question is, “What are you curious about?” Without a doubt, I am always curious about traveling and visiting new places.

Friends, the transformative power of travel cannot be overstated. Travel has the extraordinary ability to reshape our perspectives. It broadens our horizons, challenges our assumptions, and fosters a deeper appreciation for the world’s diversity.

Whether it’s witnessing the breathtaking beauty of nature, exploring ancient ruins, or simply losing oneself in a bustling city, travel offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery.

What are you curious about? What questions keep you up at night, and what wonders make you marvel at the world? Please share your feelings in the comment box. Thanks for your time.
