A Story of Spiritual Awakening

Friends,

Lord Krishna is my deity, and I am devoted to Him. Though I have read many stories about Lord Krishna, there is one particular tale that I hold dear. Today, I want to share this enlightening story with you.

Once upon a time, a sanyasi. a wandering ascetic came across a small shop while roaming the streets. The shop was filled with numerous small and big boxes, and the sanyasi’s curiosity was piqued.

Pointing towards a box, he asked the shopkeeper, “What is in this?”

The shopkeeper replied, “There is salt in this.”

The sanyasi continued, “And what about the one next to it?”

“That one has turmeric,” the shopkeeper answered.

The sanyasi kept asking about the contents of each box, and the shopkeeper kept providing answers. Finally, they reached the last box, kept at the back of the shop. Pointing towards it, the sanyasi asked, “What is in that last box?”

The shopkeeper smiled and said, “There is Shri Krishna in it!”

Surprised, the sanyasi asked, “Shri Krishna? What is this thing, brother? I have never heard of any item with that name.”

The shopkeeper laughed at the sanyasi’s innocence and said, “Mahatma, there are different things in other boxes, but this box is empty. We do not call an empty box empty; we call it Shri Krishna!”

The sanyasi’s eyes widened in astonishment. The revelation struck him profoundly. The thing he had been wandering from door to door for, he finally understood from a simple shopkeeper.

The sanyasi fell at the feet of the small grocery shopkeeper and said, “Oh, so Shri Krishna lives in the empty! It is true, brother, where is the place for Shri Krishna in a full box?”

This story packs a powerful punch. Just like a brimming box leaves no space for anything else, a mind cluttered with negativity – lust, anger, greed – leaves no room for the divine presence of Krishna, or any God for that matter.

The shopkeeper’s wisdom is a wake-up call. We chase happiness, but our overflowing hearts chase it away. True joy lies in cultivating an “empty” space within — a space free from negativity and brimming with purity.

But how do we achieve this inner emptiness? Meditation, mindfulness, and self-reflection become the tools for cleansing our hearts and minds. By letting go of negativity, we create a sacred sanctuary within, ready to welcome the divine.

This story also whispers a beautiful message of humility. The sanyasi, a seasoned seeker, learns from a seemingly ordinary shopkeeper. It reminds us that wisdom can blossom anywhere, and we must be open to learning from everyone we meet.

The Takeaway: Unclutter Your Heart, Find Your Krishna

So, the next time you feel lost or unfulfilled, remember the shopkeeper’s lesson. Empty your heart of negativity, embrace simplicity, and open yourself to the possibility of finding the divine in the most ordinary aspects of life.

Let this be your guide to spiritual awakening, and may you, like the sanyasi, discover the bliss that resides within.. Jai Shree Krishna.
