Today’s writing prompt “Are there any activities or hobbies you’ve outgrown or lost interest in over time?”
Hey everyone!
Today, I’m taking a trip down memory lane to explore a question that’s got me feeling all sorts of nostalgic: what hobbies have I waved goodbye to over the years?
We all have those activities that light a fire in our souls, whether it’s building block towers as a kid or mastering the art of the perfect sourdough in our golden years. And guess what? Those hobbies can change as we journey through life’s incredible stages.

How My Hobbies Took Me on a Lifetime Adventure
Let’s rewind to my childhood. Picture this: the carefree days of chasing mangoes up trees and the thrill of victory after a perfectly executed Gilli Danda shot (an epic Indian game involving a stick and a smaller piece of wood).
Then there were the afternoons spent battling the wind with a colorful kite, its vibrant dance across the sky mirroring the joy in my heart. And who can forget the rhythmic clack of a spinning Lattu (a traditional Indian top)?
These were my go-to’s, and they filled my days with a kind of magic that only childhood can offer.

Fast forward to my college years.
Suddenly, my world expanded beyond the familiar. Hostel life introduced me to the wonderful world of card games. Countless evenings were spent huddled around a table, the laughter echoing through the halls as we strategized our way to victory in a game of Poker or Rummy.
These weren’t just games; they were bonding experiences that solidified friendships and created memories that still make me smile.
Of course, college wasn’t all about card battles. There was the rush of excitement on the cricket pitch, the satisfying whack of a badminton birdie, the perfect balance of physical challenge and friendly competition.
These outdoor activities were my escape, a way to sweat out the stresses of exams and celebrate victories big and small.

Hobbies in the professional world
But then came the professional world, and things shifted again. Time became a precious commodity, and outdoor games took a backseat. Enter Sudoku, the mental warrior that became my new best friend.
Those little squares offered a satisfying challenge, a way to unwind after a long day while still keeping my mind sharp. Video games also became a refuge, a portal to fantastical worlds that provided a much-needed escape from reality.
Hobbies in the Golden Years
Now, in my golden years, I’m embracing a whole new set of hobbies. Retirement opened a treasure chest of possibilities, and I discovered a hidden passion for drawing and painting. Who knew I had such creativity bubbling under the surface?
These pursuits allow me to express myself in ways I never imagined, and the results bring a sense of accomplishment that warms my heart.

Blogging is a surprising delight
Blogging has also become a surprising delight. It’s a way to connect with the world, share my experiences, and maybe even inspire others on their own hobby journeys.
And let’s not forget the importance of staying active! Swimming keeps my body moving, while table tennis provides a healthy dose of competition and keeps my reflexes sharp.
Looking back, it’s amazing to see how my hobbies have mirrored the different chapters of my life. Each one holds a special place in my heart, a reminder of the person I was and the experiences that shaped me.
They weren’t just ways to pass the time; they were sources of joy, connection, and a whole lot of fun.
So, what about you? Have your hobbies taken you on a similar journey? Share your stories in the comments below – let’s reminisce about the past and celebrate the joys of the present, together!
