This poem is a heartfelt elegy for a father who has passed away. The speaker reflects on the emptiness left behind and the cherished memories that remain.
The imagery of the worn armchair, the empty chair at dinner, and the faded scent evoke a strong sense of loss. Despite the darkness and longing, the poem ends with a hopeful note, as the speaker finds solace in their father’s love and yearns for a reunion.

Oh, My Dear Father
The worn armchair, a cavern now,
your scent, a fading memory.
Empty chair at the dinner table,
laughter’s ghost, a haunting melody.
You patched my scraped knees with calloused hands,
and whispered courage when shadows loomed.
Castles built from blankets, dreams beneath the stars,
a kingdom lost since you exhumed.
Your love, a lighthouse in the storm, once bright,
guided us through crashing waves of fear.
Now darkness reigns, the beacon dimmed,
leaving only echoes in my ear.
Laughter once filled these walls, a joyful sound,
now only whispers sing your name.
warmth of your embrace once soothed my soul,
only emptiness whispers back, a hollow claim.
No longer a steady hand on life’s rough road,
your wisdom, a forgotten song.
I search for solace in the starlit sky,
yearning for the place where you belong.
