# Enhancing Your Creativity #

Artists are simple people with complex minds.

Creativity is not a distant realm reserved for a chosen few; rather, it’s a skill waiting to be cultivated, especially for those embarking on the golden years of retirement.

As a fellow enthusiast of the creative arts, I have found immense joy in exploring various avenues to enhance my creative prowess.

In this blog, let’s delve into seven actionable strategies that have breathed life into my creativity, inviting you to join me on this exciting journey of self-discovery and imagination.

Creativity does not wait for that perfect moment

Breaking free from the shackles of routine is a gateway to unlocking creativity. Personally, I’ve embraced the ritual of visiting the park, finding a secluded corner, and immersing myself in drawing and writing poetry.

The new environment sparks fresh perspectives and ideas, injecting renewed energy into my creative endeavors.

Creativity is …Seeing something that doesn’t exist already.

  • The Shower Epiphany:

Everyone who has ever taken a shower has had an idea, it is the person who gets out of the shower, dries off, and does something about it who makes a difference. — Nolan Bushnell

Yes, there’s an enchanting quality to the shower – a space where creativity seems to flow effortlessly. I’ve adopted the habit of keeping a pen and paper within reach, capturing the brilliance that often accompanies the soothing stream.

The shower, with its relaxed ambiance, has become my sanctuary for unexpected breakthroughs.

  • Walk and Talk Creativity:

Following in the footsteps of visionaries like Steve Jobs, I’ve incorporated creative thought processes into my walks. The rhythmic nature of walking stimulates new ideas, and the physical activity enhances cognitive function.

These walking sessions have proven invaluable in generating innovative solutions.

Imagination is the beginning of Creation

  • Create Psychological Distance:

Establishing a mental separation between routine and creative time is a cornerstone of my creative routine. Inspired by Toni Morrison’s sunrise ritual, I’ve identified activities that help me transition into a creative space.

Creating psychological distance allows me to access my creativity with a fresh perspective.

  • Embrace Uninhibited Brainstorming:

During the brainstorming phase, I’ve learned to welcome all ideas without judgment. Steering clear of self-limiting statements such as “That won’t work” has allowed me to unleash my creativity, exploring uncharted territories of thought.

This uninhibited approach has been a game-changer in generating novel concepts.

  • Re-conceptualize the Problem:

Challenging assumptions and looking at problems from different angles has become a mantra for me. Whether turning the problem upside down or working backward from a desired solution, these techniques have liberated my thinking from conventional patterns.

The result? A fresh and innovative approach to problem-solving.

The worst enemy of Creativity is Self-doubt.

  • Daydreaming:

Giving myself the gift of time for daydreaming has proven instrumental in my creative process. Disconnecting from digital distractions during walks or moments of quietude has allowed my mind to wander freely.

Daydreaming, with its ability to facilitate connections and pattern recognition, has become an indispensable tool for creative thinking.

  • Set Parameters for Focus:

Contrary to stifling creativity, I’ve discovered that setting parameters can enhance it. By anchoring my creative thinking with specific inquiries, I avoid feeling overwhelmed.

For instance, asking targeted questions like “How can I encourage ad growth from local businesses?” provides a focused and fruitful approach.

Creativity can solve almost any problem

  • Consider the Worst-Case Scenario:

Confronting the worst-case scenario is an antidote to fear, the nemesis of creativity. Proactive planning not only prepares me for challenges but also diminishes unnecessary fears.

Empowered with the knowledge that the worst-case scenario is manageable, I’ve found the courage to take creative risks with confidence.

Yes, creativity is something everyone can achieve. By incorporating these strategies into our daily routines, we can unlock the full potential of our creative ideas.

Remember, the more we practice, the better we become. So, start your creative journey and see how your imagination transforms the way you approach challenges and opportunities. Happy creating.

BE HAPPY….BE ACTIVE….BE FOCUSED….BE ALIVE…
