A Murder Mystry
Out-of-the-box thinking means creative problem-solving. It often takes unexpected turns, challenging conventional wisdom.
In this intriguing story from 17 years ago, we explore a chilling murder mystery that remained unsolved until a fresh perspective emerged, changing how justice was pursued.
Yes, this is a true incident that happened 17 years ago. One person Mr. Janardan Nair, who worked as an accountant in the postal department, lived with his wife Rama Devi.
These people were childless, so only these two lived in the house. The incident took place on 26 May 2006.

The story is that, one fine day Mr.Janardan came to his house and started calling his wife to open the door. When his wife did not open the door even after calling for a long time, he inserted his hand through the latticework above the door and opened the door.
When he went inside, he saw his wife’s bloodied body lying there. When the noise was raised, the neighbors also gathered and after some time the police also arrived. Wife Ramdevi’s body was sent for postmortem. The wife’s body was pierced several times with knives.
The police started interrogating the women nearby. During this interrogation, one woman said that she had seen a suspect standing in front of this house today. He was looking here and there.
The woman also said that the suspect was seen working as a laborer in a house being built nearby. The police took the identity of the suspect from the woman who went near the same house and started interrogating her.
The workers said that the man’s name was Chutla Muthu and that he had gone somewhere yesterday without informing them. The police became suspicious of that man and started searching for him.
The police kept searching for him sometimes in Bihar and sometimes in Kanpur but he was not found anywhere. Slowly this case started going into the cold bag.
In the year 2007, Janardan Nair filed a petition in the High Court and alleged that due to the lax attitude of the police, his wife’s murderer had not been caught to date and that the murderer was still roaming like a free bull.
Slowly a total of 17 years passed. During this time, 15 teams of Crime Branch tried to solve this case but everyone considered the laborer as the murderer and tried to find him. Since no information was available about the laborer, this problem could not be solved.

Now the thinking outside the box begins.
Then in the year 2023, a new officer arrived at the crime branch whose name was Sunil Raj.
Sunil Raj, armed with fresh eyes and a determination to think outside the box, sensed incongruities in the established narrative.
When he read Ramdevi’s file, he thought something different. They felt that the murderer of Ramdevi was not a laborer but someone else. Many things were creating confusion in his mind.
The first thing is that when the murderer had already come out, then what was the need for him to lock the door from inside. After a murder, one would want to run away as quickly as possible rather than stop and spend time closing the door.

Then his attention went to the statement of Janardan in which he had said that he had opened the door by putting his hand through the lattice above the door. Sunil Raj went to Janardan Nair’s house to confirm whether the door could be opened from the outside when it was locked from the inside.
After going there they came to know that the house had been demolished and a new house had been built. But, Sunil Raj did not give up and after seeing the door in the photo, he got exactly the same door made and got that door fitted by driving a little wall in an empty plot.

After a few days, Sunil Raj called Janardan and asked him to open the latch inside by putting his hand on the lattice of the door. Janardan tried hard but could not even touch the latch let alone open it. There was a distance of about one foot between the knob and the hand.
Sunil Raj’s doubt started turning into confidence. At the time of inspection of Ramdevi’s dead body, some hairs were found in both her hands, which were kept for DNA testing, but since the police were considering the laborer as the murderer, the police thought that these hairs belonged to her and when the laborer was caught,
So his DNA will be matched with the DNA of this hair and presented in the court as solid evidence.

If the police had thought a little differently, this case would have been solved long ago. Sunil Raj immediately sent Janardhan’s DNA to match that hair’s DNA. When the report came, both the DNAs were found to be the same.
Janardan was left with no other option but to confess to the crime. And this is how this 17-year-old problem was finally solved by Sunil Raj’s thinking a little differently.
Janardhan said that he had doubts about his wife’s character due to which he committed the murder. He also told that since the neighbors had started doubting me, I filed a petition in the High Court so that people would understand that I myself wanted to find my wife’s murderer and in this way, people’s suspicions were removed from me.
This tale of suspense and unexpected turns serves as a testament to the power of out-of-the-box thinking in solving complex mysteries. Sunil Raj’s fresh perspective breathed life into a cold case, showcasing the transformative potential of creative problem-solving.
