A Journey of Rediscovery and Goal Planning
Retirement – a word that carries both excitement and uncertainty, often marking a significant turning point in one’s life.
The transition from a bustling career to a life of leisure can leave one grappling with a sense of emptiness. However, it’s during these moments of change that our true resilience shines through.
While the sudden vacuum created by retirement might seem daunting, it also presents a canvas for a new chapter filled with exciting opportunities. The art of goal planning becomes the brush, coloring this canvas with purpose, fulfillment, and joy.
Embracing the Transition:
Dear friends, life’s journey is a series of seasons, each with its own unique beauty. Retirement isn’t the end of the road but a bend that leads to new horizons.
As I found myself suddenly retired under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), I realized that even though I hadn’t prepared for this specific moment, my life’s journey until then had equipped me with the skills and wisdom to embrace the change.

Creating a Blueprint for Joyful Retirement:
The key to crafting a fulfilling retired life is in planning. Just as we’ve meticulously planned our career moves, it’s equally vital to outline our goals for this new phase. I began by listing my goals – a collection of dreams I’ve carried with me. This step wasn’t just about creating a checklist; it was about defining what truly makes my heart sing.
The Art of Goal Planning:
Much like an artist starts with a blank canvas, I started with my list of goals. The journey of goal planning involves breaking down these aspirations into smaller, manageable steps. This intricate process ensures that each goal is not just a distant dream, but a journey with well-defined milestones. It’s the roadmap I need to navigate the uncharted waters of retirement.

Embracing Retirement:
SMART Objectives:
A Path to Achievement:
Setting goals is only the first step, and making them achievable is the true challenge. That’s where the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) approach comes in.
By giving each goal a specific purpose, quantifying its progress, and grounding it in reality, I’ve built a foundation for success.
- Priority: The North Star: In the tapestry of our dreams, some threads shine brighter than others.
- Prioritization is essential – it helps me channel my energy and time towards goals that will have the most profound impact on my retired life. It’s about recognizing that every stroke of the brush matters, and some strokes create masterpieces.
- Adapting to Change: Flexibility in Planning: Life is unpredictable, and even the most meticulously crafted plans might need adjustments. Regular reviews of my progress have helped me stay aligned with my evolving circumstances.
Just as an artist might change colors on the canvas to enhance its beauty, I modify my goals to suit the changing landscape.

Celebrating Milestones
Rejoicing in Progress: Every artist appreciates the beauty of a single brushstroke as much as the finished painting. Similarly, I celebrate each milestone achieved on the way to my goals.
These moments of celebration infuse my journey with a sense of accomplishment, motivating me to keep pushing forward.
Resilience: Overcoming Challenges
Challenges are part of any journey. They test our determination and shape our character. As I encounter obstacles, I remember that resilience is an integral part of the artistic process.
It’s the ability to turn setbacks into stepping stones, transforming them into new opportunities.
A Life Full of Colors
Yes friends, retirement is not the end of a colorful journey; it’s the beginning of a new palette waiting to be painted.
I have started to learn so many new skills such as making videos for U-tube, Painting on a new canvas, storytelling, Poem writing, Swimming, and so on. This blog writing is also part of my result of planning and moving toward my goal.

By employing a thoughtful and strategic approach to goal planning, we can transform this phase into an era of happiness and self-discovery.
Each stroke of planning, each decision made, and each goal achieved adds vibrancy to the canvas of our retired life.
Dear friends, the beauty of retirement lies in our hands. It’s an opportunity to reinvent ourselves, to explore our passions, and to embark on adventures we might have missed in our busy lives.
Let’s embrace this chapter with the enthusiasm of an artist facing a fresh canvas.
Let’s paint our retired life with purpose, achievement, and the joy of newfound freedom. Please share your feelings as well.
BE HAPPY….BE ACTIVE….BE FOCUSED….BE ALIVE…
