#Exercise for Brain#

Friends,

Today is July 22nd and we are celebrating World Brain Day. I mean to say, my brain and not talking about the brains of others. I remember the days when my wife often told me – “Hi husband, it seems you don’t have a brain. You don’t do anything as per my wish.” Sometimes she said “Your brain is useless.” What does it mean? I have to do exercise for my brain.

Hence, let us delve into the exercises that are required for the brain. I am sharing some of them with you in this blog post. I hope you find them useful and interesting. I have tried them myself and I have noticed some positive changes in my mental performance and mood.

My wife has also noticed them and she has stopped complaining about my brain (well, most of the time).

Yes,  let us appreciate the amazing organ that controls our thoughts, emotions, memories and actions. The brain is the most complex and vital part of our body, and it deserves our attention and care.

Just like the rest of our body, our brain also needs exercise to stay healthy and fit. In fact, research shows that regular mental stimulation can help prevent  cognitive decline and dementia in older adults.

But what kind of exercise does the brain need? And how can we incorporate it into our daily lives? Here are some tips and techniques to keep your brain active and young.

Learn something new

One of the best ways to challenge your brain is to learn something new. Whether it is a new language, a musical instrument, a hobby or a skill, learning activates multiple areas of your brain and strengthens the connections between them. Learning also boosts your memory, creativity and problem-solving abilities.

You can enroll in a course, join a club, watch online tutorials or read books on topics that interest you. I am enjoying some new skill i.e. Drawing and painting, Blog writing, Swimming and story telling. I find it very useful to keep active  and enhanced creativity.

Play games

Games are not only fun, but also beneficial for your brain. Games that involve strategy, logic, memory, speed or trivia can improve your cognitive functions and mental flexibility. You can play games like chess, sudoku, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, trivia quizzes or brain teasers on your own or with others.

You can also use apps or websites that offer various brain games for different levels of difficulty and domains. My favourite game is chess and I like to play whenever I get time.

Socialize

Socializing is another important aspect of brain health. Having meaningful interactions with others can stimulate your brain and reduce stress and loneliness. Socializing also exposes you to new ideas, perspectives and experiences that can enrich your mind.

You can socialize by joining a community group, volunteering for a cause, chatting with friends or family, or meeting new people online or offline. I use to spend an hour in the society club  and benefitted a lot.

Meditate

Meditation is a powerful tool for enhancing your brain function and well-being. Meditation can help you relax, focus, improve your mood and emotional regulation, and increase your awareness and attention span.

Meditation can also change the structure and function of your brain in positive ways, such as increasing the gray matter density and reducing the age-related shrinkage.

I do meditate by following guided audio or video instructions, using an app . Sometimes I practice on my own. This is really the best exercise to stay cool.

Exercise your body

No doubt, , physical exercise is also essential for your brain health. Physical exercise can improve your blood circulation, oxygen supply, hormone levels and immune system, all of which affect your brain function and mood.

Physical exercise can also prevent or reduce the risk of diseases that can impair your brain health, such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and stroke. You can exercise by doing aerobic activities like walking, jogging, cycling or swimming, or doing strength training like lifting weights or doing push-ups. I usually spend an hour in Gym and very fond of swimming.

These are some of the ways you can exercise your brain and keep it healthy and young. Remember that consistency is the key, so try to make these activities a part of your routine and enjoy them as much as possible. Your brain will thank you for it!

So, what are you waiting for? Start exercising your brain today and see the difference for yourself! Happy World Brain Day!
