I enjoyed the most exciting  IPL final match yesterday night.

Yes, My favorite team, Chennai Super Kings Clinch Fifth IPL Title in a Thriller Match defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in a rain-shortened final in Ahmedabad.

The final IPL 2023 match in which  Ravindra Jadeja finished in MS Dhoni style as he hit a six and a four off the last 2 balls to take Chennai Super Kings to their 5th Indian Premier League title in a rain-curtailed match.

Neither T20 nor T10,

Neither T20 nor T10, the IPL final reduced to a 15-over chase due to late Monday evening showers saw Chennai Super Kings winning their fifth title by five wickets in a nail-biting last-ball finish that ended at 1.30 am on Tuesday in front of a packed Ahmedabad crowd. Ravindra Jadeja got the 10 runs needed off the final two balls.

G.T., In the first innings, Sai Sudharsan (96) narrowly missed out on his century as Gujarat Titans posted 214/4, the highest-ever score in an IPL final, against the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Wriddhiman Saha gave him apt support with his own half-century.

Fifth title triumph

Under the stewardship of Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings embellished their already fabulous record in the IPL with a fifth title triumph, beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in a thrilling summit showdown.

Dhoni has been the cynosure of all eyes ever since the Indian Premier League began this year and in a fitting end to the finale, the captain finished with a record-levelling fifth trophy.

CSK won the toss and asked the GT to bat first.

With the help of B Sai Sudharsan who slammed 96 in 47 balls, Gujarat Titans posted 214 for four in 20 overs.

• Set a revised target of 171 in 15 overs after rain interrupted play at the start of the second innings of a final that was pushed to the reserve day owing to heavy downpour, CSK completed the task in the last ball, in what could turn out to be Dhoni’s final outing in the T20 league.

• we should appreciate Ravindra Jadeja for his brilliant performance as he struck a six and a four off Mohit Sharma in the final two balls to win it for CSK final IPL.

• Yes, even as the players in the yellow jersey run onto the field, Dhoni remained in the dugout, his eyes closed.

• Neither the juggernaut of the Gujarat Titans nor bad weather for two days could stop Dhoni’s men from drawing level with their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, in terms of most IPL trophy wins.

MS Dhoni:

What Dhoni told us on this occasion is that  Circumstantially, this is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for 9 months and try to play another IPL.

It would be a gift from me, won’t be easy on the body. You do get emotional, the first game at CSK everyone was chanting my name. My eyes were full of water, I needed to take some time off in the dugout.

I realized I need to enjoy this. I think they love me for what I am, they love that I am so grounded, I don’t try to portray something I’m not. Just keep it simple. Every trophy is special, but what is special about IPL is every crunch game you need to be ready.

There were lapses today, the bowling department didn’t work, but it was the batting department that took the pressure off them today. I do get frustrated, it is human but I try to step into their shoes, every individual deals with pressure differently.

Ajinkya and a few others are experienced, so you don’t worry. If anyone is confused, then can always ask.

The special thing about Rayudu is he will always give his 100% when he is on his field. But with him in the team, I will never win the fair play award. I’ve been playing with him for a long time, since the India A tours. He’s a player who can play spin and pace equally well. It is something really special.

I felt he would do something really special today, he’s also like me – not someone who uses the phone often. I hope he enjoys the next phase of his life.

However, one thing is for sure: Dhoni will go down as one of the greatest cricketers of all time. He has won three World Cups with India, and he has also won the IPL five times.
