#Who hit the Gym at 41

Don’t settle for average

Pratibha Thapliyal’s story of struggle and success is one that is truly inspiring. At the age of 41, when most people are winding down their careers and settling into a comfortable retirement, Pratibha decided to take up bodybuilding, a sport that is typically associated with younger athletes.

Age is just a number

Her dedication, hard work, and unwavering determination paid off when she won a gold medal in the bodybuilding championship, proving that age is just a number and that anything is possible with the right attitude and mindset.

Pratibha’s journey to becoming a champion bodybuilder was not an easy one. She had to overcome many obstacles and challenges along the way. Born and raised in a small village in Sikar, Rajasthan, Pratibha was always interested in sports and fitness.

However, her family’s conservative views and societal expectations meant that she was not encouraged to pursue her interests. Instead, she was expected to get married, have children, and devote herself to her family.

Got married at an early age

Pratibha did get married at an early age and had two children. But she never lost her passion for fitness. She would wake up early every morning to go for a jog and do some basic exercises, even though she didn’t have any formal training or access to a gym. She also made sure that her family ate healthy, nutritious meals, and encouraged them to be active and participate in sports.

However, it wasn’t until Pratibha turned 40 that she decided to take her fitness to the next level.

Struggling with thyroid problems

During that period, Pratibha, a homemaker was struggling with thyroid problems. The doctor advised her to work out to manage their Thyroid level.

She did not panic but decided to peruse her passion in bodybuilding.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress

She had been following bodybuilding competitions on television and was fascinated by the muscular physiques of the athletes. She began to research the sport and learned that it was not just about building muscles, but also about discipline, focus, and mental toughness. She decided to give it a try, even though she knew that it would be a difficult and challenging journey.

Pratibha’s first challenge was finding a coach and a gym that would take her seriously. She faced skepticism and discrimination from male coaches and gym owners who believed that women were not capable of serious bodybuilding. However, Pratibha did not give up. She kept searching until she found a female coach who was willing to train her and a gym that welcomed her.

Her training was intense

Her training was grueling and intense. She had to wake up at 4 am every morning to go to the gym before her family woke up. She had to follow a strict diet that required her to eat six meals a day, all of which had to be high in protein and low in fat.

She had to lift weights that were much heavier than what she was used to and do cardio exercises that left her breathless. However, she did not complain or make excuses. She pushed herself to the limit and never gave up, even when she felt exhausted and discouraged.
