Happy Teacher’s Day

A teacher’s purpose is not to create students in his own image,

but to develop students who can create their own image…

Sometimes ago when I was still employed in Bank, I was experiencing official meetings through video conferences, which was very exciting and relatively new for me,

But today, I am experiencing the same system in the online education system due to COVID -19, as I have to manage the show daily during online classes of my granddaughter.

Lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic have posed many challenges for education globally, and India is no exception.

During the lockdown, all the school and colleges are closed since a long time and now one is unable to predict when they will resumes as usual.

The extent of impact of the lockdown on schools, community and children is proportionally higher.

India has 1.4 million schools, 2.01 million children enrolled in government schools from 1^st to 8^th grade and an additional 3.8 million children enrolled in 9^th and 10^th grade. It has been learnt that Approximately 29% of India’s population are children, and 19.29% are in the age group of 6-14 years. This group is legally entitled to education under the Right to Education.

These days, all student, particularly children group is suffering a lot due to school shutting down.

Looking at the big challenges to school education in the COVID-19 scenario, the government has announced – digital and online education,

And friends. We therefore are experiencing new method of learning called as Online Classes conducted by schools.

The real potential of the student do not get  recognized and overall development is jeopardized.

The school teachers are evolving new method of teaching to make the online classes interesting.

Here are few of my suggestions on how the teacher can help students even more with the online learning system:

1. Believe in your student’s potential.

A teacher’s success begins with the success of their students. Always have high expectations for your students. Believe in their potential to succeed and make sure you push them to their limits.

Even when they fail, motivate them to try again and to work harder.

This strategy helps you to pull out of their comfort zones so that they can pursue success knowing that you are there to pick them up each time they fail.

2. Learn everything you can about your field.

Being very knowledgeable in your field of study is also a crucial stepping stone towards a successful teaching career.

It’s true that even the most successful teachers don’t know everything, but, the more you know the easier it will be to teach your student and to offer them prompt answers to their questions.

You can also do more with technology, such as doing online lessons and creating exciting technology based activities.

Learning never stop and that is why as a teacher you need to feed your mind with as much information as it can take it.

Remember that students always prefer consulting teacher who are known to possess in depth knowledge about a specific field, knowledge indicates authenticity.

3. Be fun and energetic.

Did you know that most students are more comfortable sharing their academic problems with humorous and enthusiastic teachers rather than the grumpy and ‘ever serious’ ones?

Yes ! The way to carry yourself greatly determines your approach and ability towards solving their problems..

Make a point of smiling each time you converse with your students, crack a joke or two and so on.

This helps to ease any tension of fear that the student may be filling when approaching you for help.

4. Take risks

They say, “No risk…no reward”…..taking risk plays a crucial part in a person’s success, your students watch and observe all your moves.

Therefore if you take risks by trying new things every once in a while, they will also be confident enough do the same.

This pushes them to burst out their bubbles, exploring the unknown which eventually nurtures their risk taking skills and eventual success.

5. Be creative and think outside the box

The strategies you use to pass on information to your students need to be creative, in a way that captures the attention of your classroom. Strive to make each learning lesson a thrilling one for your students.

This not only makes their learning experience fun but also ensures that they are fully engaged during each class and always eager for the next one.

This will also help in preparing school systems to face such pandemics more efficiently.

It will also move towards building a strong public education system in the country. COVID-19 did teach us how schooling is not equivalent to merely learning,

But encompasses a social space, a social process, to learn to live, think and act for one’s self and the collective good.
