Daily writing prompt
If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood and filled with wanderlust!

Today’s writing prompt brought a sparkle to my eyes and a flutter to my heart — “If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?”

As someone who finds joy in every journey and peace in every destination, this question awakened the traveler in me.

The possibilities are endless, but I believe that when the heart has long held a dream, even two plane tickets can become the wings of a lifetime.

The very idea of winning two free plane tickets feels like the universe giving you a nudge — “Here, go live a little more.”

Travel has always been more than sightseeing for me. It’s about transformation. Each trip I’ve taken, from the snow-draped hills of Gangtok to the sunny backwaters of Kerala, has left an imprint on my soul.

But these free tickets? They are my passport to a dream I’ve held close for years.

Yes, if I were gifted two plane tickets today, I would fly to Switzerland — the land of snow-kissed Alps, crystal-clear lakes, and postcard villages.

From my childhood, I’ve been fascinated by the beauty of this enchanting country. Watching old Hindi films where Raj Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore strolled across alpine meadows only added fuel to that dream.

Even now, when I close my eyes, I see myself aboard the Glacier Express, sipping hot coffee, passing through mountains wrapped in white and valleys painted green.

Traveling alone can be powerful, but with the gift of two tickets, there is only one person I’d love to take — my better half, my life companion.

After all, what better way to celebrate a bond built over years of joys, struggles, and dreams than by sharing new landscapes together?

We’ve walked through the bylanes of Kolkata, danced on rainy evenings, and sipped chai at roadside stalls.

It’s time we walked hand in hand through Lucerne’s wooden bridges, sat by Lake Geneva, and enjoyed the surreal silence of the Swiss countryside.

Switzerland isn’t just about breathtaking visuals — it’s about experiences that awaken the heart.

  • Zermatt – A quaint mountain village that looks straight out of a storybook. We would take the cogwheel train up to Gornergrat for panoramic views of the Matterhorn.
  • Interlaken – For a thrilling ride on a cable car and paragliding (well, maybe just watching others do it!).
  • Jungfraujoch – Standing on the “Top of Europe,” breathing in the chilled air, and soaking in the stunning views — what a dream!
  • Montreux – Where we’d walk along the lakeside promenade, explore Chillon Castle, and maybe attend a music festival.
  • Bern and Zurich – To embrace the city vibe, explore art museums, shop for Swiss chocolates, and sip espresso in sidewalk cafés.

Travel is not just about grand landmarks, but also about the small joys — like tasting authentic Swiss fondue, collecting souvenir magnets, trying to pronounce German-Swiss words, or simply sitting by the window with my sketchbook and drawing the mountains.

As a writer, every destination whispers stories to me.

I imagine penning poems under starry skies or journaling about a quiet walk along Lake Lucerne. These are the moments that enrich life and make travel worthwhile.

Some believe that travel is a young man’s game. I disagree. In fact, post-retirement travel is the most meaningful. We have the time, the wisdom, and the appreciation for beauty. Traveling now is not a race; it’s a soulful stroll.

These free plane tickets wouldn’t just be a getaway — they’d be a celebration of life, a tribute to dreams that waited patiently, and a reminder that it’s never too late to explore the world.

So, dear friends, if I won two free plane tickets today, I wouldn’t think twice. I’d pack my warmest sweater, carry my notebook, hold my partner’s hand, and fly to the land where dreams and snowflakes dance together — Switzerland.

Because life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

And perhaps, somewhere in the quiet of the Alps, I’d whisper a thank you to the universe — for reminding me that magic still exists, especially when we dare to dream.

Where would you go if you won two plane tickets? Let your heart answer.

Warm regards,
Vijay Verma
