# My Daily Habits for Healthier Life #

Daily writing prompt
What are your daily habits?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood.

Today’s writing prompt question is one of my favourites: “What are your daily habits?”

As a senior citizen and a health-conscious person, I take this question not just as a reflection but as a celebration of the lifestyle I’ve embraced after retirement.

My habits have not only improved my physical health but have transformed my mental and emotional wellbeing. I believe that our days become our life, and what we do daily writes the story of who we are becoming.

So, let me take you on a walk through my day. Please stay with me…

My day begins at 5:30 AM sharp. The stillness of the early morning holds a magic that words can hardly express.

I start my day with a short prayer and a few minutes of deep breathing. It centers me and connects me with the divine.

The silence of dawn is my favourite companion, whispering promises of a good day ahead.

By 6:00 AM, I am out for my morning walk, often in a nearby park of the residence. When I’m travelling, I try to enjoy my morning walk along the beach or a mountain path.

I believe nature has healing power. Listening to the chirping of birds, watching the sunrise paint the sky, and feeling the breeze on my face—it all revitalizes my spirit.

This walk is not merely for fitness, but for soul nourishment.

After the walk, I dedicate 30–45 minutes to yoga and light exercise. I follow a customized routine including stretching, pranayama (breathwork), and some strength-building workouts.

It keeps my joints flexible and my energy levels high. Staying active at this age is not an option, it’s a necessity—and a joyful one!

Next comes my favourite cup of herbal tea—either mint, green, or ginger-lemon. I often pair this with some soothing old Hindi songs or classical music.

It sets the tone for creativity. I jot down any thoughts or feelings that visit me—sometimes they become poems, sometimes blog ideas.

Mid-morning is my golden hour of creativity. I spend time either writing for my blog (retiredkalam.com), working on poems, or experimenting with colours on canvas. This daily creative practice gives me immense satisfaction and keeps my mind agile.

Art and words have become my best friends in this phase of life.

I follow a simple, nutritious vegetarian diet with home-cooked meals. I avoid overeating and prefer seasonal fruits and vegetables, millets, and pulses.

I make sure to eat slowly and mindfully, appreciating each bite. I believe food is not just fuel—it’s medicine.

Post-lunch, I take a short nap or simply lie down and relax. It’s like a mini-reset for the body. In today’s rush-rush world, people forget the value of rest.

For seniors, especially, afternoon rest helps avoid fatigue and maintains our rhythm.

Evening time is often reserved for reading, listening to podcasts, or watching informative videos.

I make it a point to learn something new every day—be it a health tip, a new word, or something about technology. Staying curious has kept me young at heart.

Before dinner, I often chat with friends or spend time with family. Sometimes we play board games, sometimes we just laugh and share stories.

Meaningful conversations are as vital as medicine. They keep the heart happy and emotions balanced.

At night, I journal briefly—noting down a few things I’m grateful for, or thoughts I wish to explore later. A warm cup of turmeric milk and a few verses of poetry (often Gulzar or Ghalib) accompany me to bed.

By 11.00 PM, I turn off the lights. I believe good sleep is sacred, especially at this age.

Friends, these habits are not forced routines—they are acts of self-love. They have helped me build a peaceful, purposeful post-retirement life.

They remind me that each day is a gift. I feel stronger, more connected to myself, and joyful in ways I never imagined when I was chasing targets and numbers in my banking job.

I often say:

Your habits create your future. Nurture them wisely.”

I invite you to look at your day. What habits do you live by? Which ones bring you health, happiness, and meaning?

If you’re still searching, remember—it’s never too late to build a new daily life. Start small. One good habit at a time.

Thank you for walking through my day with me.
Until next time, stay well, stay joyful.

Warm regards,
Vijay Verma
