Thing That Brings Joy to My Life
Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful and contented mood. Life often throws complicated questions at us—How to be happy? How to find meaning?—but today’s writing prompt takes a refreshing turn.
It asks us to reflect on something beautifully simple: Describe one simple thing you do that brings joy to your life.
It’s a heartwarming question because, in truth, happiness often hides in the little corners of our everyday life.
For me, that one simple thing is painting—not as a grand artistic pursuit but as a humble, joyous ritual that brings peace to my soul and color to my days.

The Magic of Picking Up the Brush
I was never an artist during my younger years. My banking job demanded precision, numbers, and logic. But after retirement, when the rigid schedules melted away, I found myself drawn to colors—almost instinctively.
At first, I hesitated. “Isn’t painting something trained artists do?” I thought. But one afternoon, I picked up an old brush, dipped it in blue, and let it wander over paper.
What emerged wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was mine. A splash of freedom. A reflection of how I felt.
From that day onward, painting became my therapy, my celebration, my meditation.
Why This Simple Habit Brings Joy
Painting gives me a break from the mental noise. When I paint, I stop worrying about the future or revisiting the past.
I am simply present. It’s like having a personal window into a world where judgment doesn’t exist—only colors, emotions, and imagination.
Moreover, it helps me connect with my inner self. On some days, my art turns into a storm of bold strokes; on others, it’s a gentle whisper of pastel hues.
Yes, It mirrors my emotional landscape, giving me clarity without needing to use words.

The Joy of Creating, Not Perfecting
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned through painting is that joy comes from creating, not perfecting. I don’t aim for realism or technical brilliance.
I aim for honesty. If a painting of a tree turns out to look like an octopus, I laugh and hang it proudly on my wall.😍
That’s the beauty of a simple act—it allows you to embrace imperfection. And in this acceptance, there is tremendous freedom.
The Ripple Effect of a Joyful Habit
You might wonder how such a small act can make a big difference. Well, when you find something that makes you genuinely happy, it starts to show in every aspect of your life.
My mornings now start with the excitement of choosing colors, and that positivity flows into my conversations, my blog writing, even my health.
This joy spills over into my relationships. My granddaughter loves to sit beside me and paint her own “masterpieces.”
Those moments of shared creativity are priceless. We don’t just paint—we bond, we giggle, we create memories.

Finding Your Own Simple Joy
Now, painting may not be your thing—and that’s perfectly okay. The beauty of this prompt is that it nudges us all to look within and ask: What is that one simple thing I do that lifts my spirits?
Maybe it’s taking a walk at sunrise. Maybe it’s brewing your favorite cup of tea and watching the world go by.
Maybe it’s dancing to old Hindi songs in your living room, like I often do when no one’s watching. Whatever it is, hold onto it. Nurture it. Celebrate it.
A Gentle Reminder
We often underestimate the power of simple joys in a world that glorifies busyness and achievement. But joy isn’t always in the grand. Sometimes, it’s in dipping your fingers into paint and letting your soul speak without words.
So, my dear friends, I encourage you to pick up that forgotten hobby, revisit that little ritual, or explore something new that sparks a smile in your heart.
Life isn’t just about milestones; it’s about moments. Find the simple thing that brings you joy, and let it be your anchor in every season.
Thank you for taking the time to read my reflection today. I’d love to hear—what’s your one simple joy?
Until next time,
Stay creative, stay joyful.

That’s great that you get to take the opportunity and bond with your granddaughter! She will remember that always. I can appreciate that you take in the imperfections. This is something I still struggle with and I always second guess myself when it comes to painting, always too hard on myself. I do have some on my page, but not all. Your style is wonderful and it compliments you. I love looking at others art just for the simple diversity and I will be like man I wish I could do that. But we are our own peoples and that’s enough 🙂

Thank you so much for your heartfelt message—it truly touched me. 💛
Yes, those moments with my granddaughter are treasures I hold dear. You’re absolutely right—she may forget the details, but she’ll remember the joy we shared.
And I understand completely what you mean about second-guessing yourself. I used to feel the same way. But I’ve learned that art isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It’s about letting your soul breathe through colors and shapes, however they may come.
Your words are a beautiful reminder that we all bring something unique to the canvas of life. Your art has its own voice, and that voice matters. Keep painting, keep expressing, and never be afraid to share—you never know who you might inspire.
Thank you again for your kind words about my style. Let’s continue to create freely, celebrate diversity, and most of all—enjoy the journey. 🙂🎨💫

That was beautifully written, thank you for this insight into your joyful hobby.
I also love to paint. More digitally than on real paper. Because unfortunately I’m often too critical and it’s easier to erase something on digital paper. Real paper is not so forgiving. But I should dare to do it more often.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful words—it warms my heart to know that you connected with my reflections. 😊
How wonderful that you love to paint too! Digital art is a beautiful medium in itself, full of flexibility and creativity. I completely understand the feeling of being overly critical—we artists are often our own toughest critics. But remember, every stroke—whether on screen or paper—is a step toward self-expression.
Real paper may not be as forgiving, but it holds a certain magic in its imperfection. Each line tells a story, each smudge has soul. I encourage you to give it a try when you feel ready—not for perfection, but for the joy of simply creating.
Let your creativity flow freely—your art, in any form, is a gift. 🎨✨

I love seeing people be proud and passionate about their creative expression! I pray that God brings you more inspiration and moments to grow in your craft.
Besides my faith, the arts bring me so much joy. I adore writing in my journal and blog. I love reading the works of old and learning how to write through their works. I admire the beauty in paintings and statues and exploring new cultures and ideas.
