Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you well. Today’s writing prompt is interesting: “What activities do you lose yourself in?”
Retirement is often viewed as a time to relax, but for many, including me, it marks a fresh start. It’s a chance to rediscover interests, foster creativity, and participate in activities that bring joy.
A remarkable part of this stage is the ability to fully immerse oneself in something, losing track of time. This feeling, known as “flow,” occurs when we are completely focused and happily engaged in the moment.
After my retirement, I found myself at a crossroads. Having spent decades in the banking sector, my life revolved around numbers, calculations, and financial transactions.
However, once I stepped away from my professional responsibilities, I realized that I had a golden opportunity to pursue activities that truly resonated with my heart.
That’s when I turned to painting and writing—two activities that allow me to lose myself entirely and embrace the joy of self-expression.

The Magic of Painting
There is something truly mesmerizing about putting brush to canvas. Painting is not just about colors and strokes; it is about emotion, imagination, and storytelling.
When I begin a painting, I often start with a vague idea, but as I lose myself in the process, the painting takes on a life of its own.
Hours pass unnoticed as I mix colors, create textures, and bring my vision to life.
The beauty of painting lies in its unpredictability. Sometimes, a simple stroke can transform the entire composition. Other times, what begins as an abstract splash of colors turns into something meaningful and profound.
Each painting carries a piece of my soul, a reflection of my thoughts and emotions at that moment.
Moreover, painting is therapeutic. It has the power to calm the mind, relieve stress, and bring immense satisfaction. It is my escape from the mundane, my way of expressing what words often fail to capture.
There is a unique joy in seeing a blank canvas transform into something vibrant and alive.

The Power of Writing
While painting is a visual form of self-expression, writing allows me to explore my thoughts, emotions, and experiences through words.
Writing, to me, is like embarking on a journey where I discover new perspectives, relive cherished memories, and give shape to my ideas.
When I write, whether it is a poem, a short story, or a blog, I find myself completely immersed in the process. The outside world fades away, and all that remains is my connection with words.
I have often found myself starting to write in the early hours of the morning, only to realize that the sun has already set. Such is the power of storytelling—it transports us to different worlds, allowing us to experience life from multiple dimensions.
Writing also serves as a bridge between my inner world and the readers who engage with my work. It is a form of communication that goes beyond spoken words.
When readers resonate with my words, when they tell me that a story or poem touched their hearts, it fills me with an indescribable sense of fulfillment.

The Common Thread: Passion and Flow
Both painting and writing share a common thread—they allow me to experience “flow.” Flow is that magical state where everything else fades away, and I am completely absorbed in what I am doing.
It is a state of pure concentration and joy, where time loses its significance, and creativity flows effortlessly.
Psychologists describe this state as being highly beneficial for mental well-being. It enhances productivity, improves focus, and provides a deep sense of satisfaction.
Whether it is an artist engrossed in their masterpiece, a musician lost in their melody, or a writer weaving words into a story, flow is the ultimate sign of true passion.
Discovering Your Own Flow
Everyone has something that makes them lose track of time. For some, it might be gardening, playing an instrument, dancing, cooking, or even solving puzzles.
The key is to find that one activity that ignites a spark within, something that doesn’t feel like work but instead fills you with energy and excitement.
In our fast-paced world, it is easy to get caught up in routine and responsibilities. However, taking time to engage in activities that bring joy and fulfillment is essential for a balanced life.
Whether you are retired or still working, finding moments to lose yourself in something you love can be truly transformative.
My final submission
As I continue my journey of painting and writing, I realize how lucky I am to have found these creative outlets. They not only bring me joy but also give me a sense of purpose.
Losing myself in these activities is not an escape from reality; rather, it is a way of embracing life more fully.
So, what activities do you lose yourself in? If you haven’t yet discovered that passion, I encourage you to explore different avenues.
Try something new, revisit old hobbies, and see what truly captivates your soul. Life is too short to not lose yourself in the things that make you feel alive.
