# A New Chapter Beyond Retirement #

Daily writing prompt
What is your career plan?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood and a peaceful state of mind. Today’s writing prompt gave me a chuckle at first glance: What is your career plan?

At 65, this question felt misplaced—almost like asking a fish to climb a tree. “Career plan?” I mused. “That ship has sailed.”

But then I paused.

Is it really so?

Does the end of a salaried job mean the end of purpose, ambition, or a career? Or is it, perhaps, a beginning disguised as an ending?

One day, a dear friend asked me a simple yet profound question: “What’s your career plan now?” I laughed and said, “I’m retired, I’m done.”

But he smiled and replied, “You always have goals. The fire in your heart isn’t retired. Make a new plan. Life’s still offering you roles—you just have to audition again.”

That struck a chord.

And so I sat down with a cup of green tea, my journal, and a curious heart. I asked myself: What do I want now? What do I want to learn, to share, to create?

After retirement from the banking sector, I found myself in unfamiliar territory. For decades, I was defined by balance sheets, financial statements, and client meetings.

When that ended, I discovered a quieter—but deeper—voice inside me. It whispered stories, poems, and memories. It pulled me toward writing, painting, and creating.

I found joy in blogging. I painted vibrant strokes of imagination on canvas. I penned poems that made even my stoic heart weep with joy or nostalgia. Slowly, I realized that I wasn’t retiring—I was rewiring.

This, my friends, was the beginning of a second career—one not bound by deadlines or targets, but by joy, passion, and self-expression.

So, in answer to the prompt: Yes, I do have a career plan.

It may not look like a corporate ladder anymore, but it is a structured journey:

  1. Write Daily:
I will continue sharing blogs on topics that touch the heart and ignite the mind—poetry, health, purpose, relationships, spirituality, and personal growth.
  2. Publish More Books:
My first book was my heart in print. I aim to write more—memoirs, collections of poetry, and perhaps fiction inspired by my life and imagination.
  3. Explore Art More Deeply:
My paints are my companions now. I plan to create 51 paintings this season and perhaps hold a small exhibition one day.
  4. Inspire the Retired:
Through my blog, I want to create a space for others like me who feel lost after retirement. We are not done. We are reborn. I want to share tools, ideas, and motivation to help others find new joy.
  5. Lifelong Learning:
I plan to keep learning—about literature, digital tools, and even video editing to make my creative work more dynamic.
  6. Collaborate and Connect:
Whether it’s connecting with fellow writers, artists, or readers, I aim to expand my circle, not just socially but soulfully.

We often reduce “career” to “job” or “income.” But a career is more than that—it’s your chosen path of contribution. It is what you offer the world in exchange for meaning. Whether it’s parenting, teaching, volunteering, writing, or creating—you’re still on a journey.

Retirement does not mean resignation. It means realignment. It means asking, “Now that I have time, how do I want to spend it meaningfully?”

So yes, my friends, I do have a career plan. It may not come with promotions or appraisals, but it comes with peace, passion, and purpose.

I’m working for joy now, not for money. And that, in itself, is the most liberating career I’ve ever had. Is it not ?

Perhaps this is true life.
Not the one where we chase, but the one where we choose.

So, if you’re reading this and wondering if it’s too late to make a plan—let me tell you: As long as your heart is beating and your spirit is dreaming, your career isn’t over. It’s just waiting for its next act.

With love,
Mr. Verma

  1. Do we always have to measure what we do. I struggle with that.

    • The truth I’ve come to understand after years of running on the treadmill of numbers:
      Not everything valuable is measurable.

The poem that brings peace to one heart…
The painting that soothes your soul while you make it…
The blog that reminds someone, “I’m not alone”…

      These things cannot be charted.
      Yet they matter deeply.

I, too, have struggled with this—wondering whether what I do is “enough” or “productive” in the eyes of others. But I’ve slowly learned to ask a different question:
      “Is it meaningful to me?”

If the answer is yes, then the act has already succeeded. Is not it ?
