To mark this occasion, I want to share an exciting experience—one that made my love for chocolate grow even deeper.

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting a chocolate factory, and the experience was nothing short of magical. But before I get into that, let me take you on a little detour through Delhi, where I rediscovered a hidden gem that stole my heart.

Rediscovering Delhi and the Enchanting Dhan Mill

I found myself in Delhi, exactly a year after my last visit, exploring different corners of this vibrant city. However, my visit to Dhan Mill was the real highlight.

This unique space, once a warehouse and granary, has been transformed into an artistic, cultural, and culinary hub.

The Story Behind Dhan Mill

Originally established as a rice mill and storage facility by R.K. Jain in the 1960s, the business struggled for years before being repurposed into a creative space. Today, it stands as a haven for artists, food lovers, and experience seekers.

A Palette of Art and Flavors

One of the most striking spots in Dhan Mill is Palette Café, where food meets art. The walls adorned with paintings, the soothing music, and the delectable fusion of Italian, Lebanese, and Mexican cuisine create an unforgettable experience.

However, my most cherished moment came when I discovered a true chocolate paradise.

Colocal: A Chocolate Lover’s Dream

Tucked within Dhan Mill, Colocal is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory and café that offers an immersive journey into the world of chocolate. Stepping into Colocal around 6:30 PM,

I was welcomed by the intoxicating aroma of cocoa, lush greenery, and an inviting atmosphere. It felt like I had entered Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory—but in real life.

A Taste of Pure Bliss

Being a dark chocolate enthusiast, I indulged in their 65% hot chocolate, a cup of pure, melted chocolate that was both rich and smooth. Alongside, I tried their Margherita sourdough, a delightful combination of crispy and chewy textures.

For dessert, I couldn’t resist their chocolate tart with cacao nibs and flourless chocolate cake, both of which melted in my mouth, perfectly complementing my cappuccino.

Colocal also offers a variety of vegan options, along with pastas and burgers, making it a must-visit for food lovers. But the true magic lay beyond just tasting chocolate—I wanted to learn how it was made.

Exploring the Art of Chocolate Making

My curiosity led me upstairs to witness the chocolate-making process firsthand. The friendly staff took me through every step, from roasting cocoa beans to tempering and molding the chocolate.

I was fascinated to learn that Colocal is one of India’s first artisanal chocolate roasters, dedicated to crafting high-quality chocolates from scratch.

As I walked through their bakery, the scent of freshly baked dough and cocoa filled the air, making it impossible not to take some chocolates home.

The experience was more than just tasting—it was about appreciating the craftsmanship and love that goes into making each chocolate bar.
