The Lion, the Fox, and the Foolish Donkey
Once upon a time, in a dense jungle, a hungry Lion sat under the shade of a tree, his stomach growling with hunger. Frustrated by his failed hunts, he summoned a sly Fox and commanded, “Get me something to eat, or I will eat you!”
The Fox, clever as always, hatched a cunning plan. She approached a naive Donkey grazing in a nearby meadow and said, “Congratulations! You’ve been chosen to become the king of the jungle. The Lion himself wishes to crown you. Come with me to receive your royal blessings!”
Flattered by the idea of becoming king, the Donkey eagerly followed the Fox. When they reached the Lion, the ferocious beast leaped at the Donkey, biting off its ears in the process. Startled and in pain, the Donkey managed to escape and ran back to the Fox.
“You tricked me!” the Donkey cried. “The Lion attacked me! Look, he even bit off my ears!”
The Fox, feigning innocence, replied, “Oh, dear friend, you misunderstood. The Lion only took your ears so you could wear the royal crown comfortably. Don’t you see how thoughtful he is? Come back with me, and this time you’ll surely be crowned.”
Confused but still tempted by the idea of royalty, the Donkey hesitated but eventually agreed to follow the Fox again.
This time, the Lion pounced even harder, biting off the Donkey’s tail. Despite the pain, the Donkey managed to escape once more.

“This is madness!” the Donkey shouted at the Fox. “He’s trying to kill me! Now he’s bitten off my tail too!”
The Fox, with her silver tongue, reassured the Donkey, “Oh, silly one, the Lion merely wanted to ensure you’d sit comfortably on the throne. You can’t be a king with a bothersome tail, can you? Come back with me, and I promise this time everything will go as planned.”
Blinded by greed and foolishness, the Donkey decided to give it one last try. As soon as they reached the Lion, the beast wasted no time and delivered a fatal blow, killing the Donkey instantly.
The Lion, pleased with the Fox’s work, said, “Well done, Fox! Now skin the Donkey and bring me its brains, lungs, liver, and heart.”
The Fox obeyed but couldn’t resist her own hunger. She ate the Donkey’s brain before presenting the rest of the organs to the Lion.
When the Lion inspected the offering, he roared, “Where is the Donkey’s brain?”
The Fox, ever ready with a witty response, bowed and said, “Oh, mighty King, the Donkey had no brain. If it had one, it wouldn’t have come back to you after being hurt twice.”
The Lion paused for a moment, pondering the Fox’s words. “You speak the truth. Only a brainless creature would repeat the same mistake and expect a different outcome.”
Moral of the Story
Greed and foolishness can blind even the wisest among us. The Donkey’s desire for power led him to trust the cunning Fox, despite repeated betrayals and warnings.
The story teaches us to recognize deceit, think critically, and not let greed override our common sense.
In life, when things seem too good to be true, they often are. Trust and wisdom go hand in hand, and those who fail to learn from their mistakes may face dire consequences.
