A Night Filled With Tears and Unexpected Joy
The night sky was vast and dark, with only a few stars. The clock tower chimed twelve, its sound echoing through the empty streets. Like every day, an old man named Ashok was drunkenly walking down the street leading to his house.
A light on a pole was burning on the way. Just below that pole, a 15 to 16-year-old girl was seen frighteningly. She was standing scared in old torn clothes, wiping her tears. As soon as the old man’s eyes fell on the girl, he stopped, perhaps the girl was almost clinging to the light pole in search of light, the old man went closer to her.
The girl was scared when she heard him coming. She looked around nervously, trying to find a way to escape. Ashok, filled with his own unfulfilled dreams, approached her slowly, speaking with concern. and asked her with a stuttering tongue,
“What’s your name, child?” he rasped, his words slurring slightly. “Why are you out here alone so late at night?”

Four boys were staring at the girl
The girl was silently, scared and looking at someone away from her eyes. When the old man looked in the direction where the girl was looking, four boys were staring at the girl, one of them was known to the old man.
The boy looked at the old man and shrugged and went away from there with his friends.
The girl was suspicious even of the drunken old man, yet she gathered courage and told that my name is Rupa, I have run away from the orphanage, they were going to send me somewhere for the night. With great difficulty, she could say in a hushed voice…!
Ashok’s heart clenched. He understood the desperation in her voice, the fear of the unknown that had driven her to take such a drastic step. Here was a young soul, tossed around by fate, with nowhere to turn.
Ashok:- What are you talking about..where will you go now..!
Girl:- Don’t know…..!
Elder:- Will you come to my house…..?
The girl was thinking in her mind that he is under the influence of alcohol and it is the middle of the night, on top of that he does not even look decent, and many other questions were troubling her mind.
Ashok:- Now I ask for the last time, will you come to my house forever…?

Accepting bad luck as her destiny, scared of the deep darkness, leaving everything in the trust of God, the girl said – yes, in a hushed voice.
The old man quickly held the girl’s hand tightly and walked towards his house, almost dragging her with fast steps. He was so drunk that he could not even walk properly.
He somehow staggered to his house made of mud. He reached and knocked on the latch; within a short while his wife opened the door and was shocked to see the girl.
I brought us a daughter,
Before she could speak, Ashok gestured towards Rupa. “I brought us a daughter,” he declared, his voice thick with emotion. “We won’t be called childless anymore. From today on, we have a family.“

His wife’s initial shock melted away as she saw the young girl, a fragile wisp of a human, lost and scared. In that moment, she saw not a stranger, but a child in desperate need of love.
Tears welled up in her eyes, not of sadness, but of an unexpected joy that bloomed under the starless night sky. She reached out, enveloping Rupa in a warm embrace, a silent promise of a safe haven, a family.
