This is a poignant exploration of the life cycle of a once-vibrant tree, now standing in solitude and reflection.
It encapsulates the essence of the tree’s narrative, highlighting its final desires and the emotional journey it undertakes in its twilight years.
As the tree faces its twilight years, the verses eloquently convey a sense of loneliness, a fading decree that leads to a poignant plea for release.

Last Wish of a Retired Tree
In the barren soil, I stand alone,
once vibrant, now a soul overthrown,
Devoid of life, joy, and song,
Longing for release, where I belong.
I recall my days of youthful grace,
Leaves and blooms adorned my space,
A melody of life, in the sun’s warm embrace,
Oh, how swiftly those moments did race.
Once, people sought my comforting shade,
Beneath my boughs, their joyful stories laid,
My fruits, a feast, my branches a cascade,
In those memories, my world once made.
Now I am old, a relic of what used to be,
No laughter, no whispers, just a silent plea,
I stand in solitude, a solemn decree,
I am a tree, retired, a fading decree.
So let the flames of oblivion rise,
Let the embers dance, flames climb high,
Release me peacefully, from this silent sigh,
In the funeral pyre, grant me a goodbye,
(Vijay Verma)
