# The Clever Goldsmith #

Dear friends,

I hope this Blog finds you in good health and high spirits as we embark on the promising journey of a new year. With the dawn of fresh beginnings, the day Monday is allotted for Storytelling. As such, Please delve with me in a beautiful story.

There was a king named Madhav Singh. The king was very wise. One day, King Madhav Singh, curious about the extent of his kingdom’s security, asked his ministers if anyone could steal from him.

With unwavering confidence, the ministers asserted that none would dare steal from the majestic king.

Yet, a shrewd minister dared to differ. Stepping forward, he addressed the king, “Your Majesty, there exist goldsmiths with the uncanny skill to pilfer gold right before the eyes of onlookers.”

The incredulous king, dismissing the notion, declared, “That’s preposterous. No goldsmith can steal gold in my presence.” Undaunted, King Madhav Singh decided to put this claim to the test, summoning all the goldsmiths in the kingdom to his court.

As the goldsmiths gathered, an air of suspense enveloped them, perplexed about the reason for the royal summons. The king entered the court and posed a challenge, “Can any of you steal gold in my presence?”

Some goldsmiths made conservative claims, while others boasted of seizing substantial amounts. Then, a daring goldsmith named Chatur Sonar boldly declared, “I can steal the entire stash, even if it’s right before your eyes.” The court was left in awe, skeptical of his audacious proclamation.

Unperturbed, King Madhav Singh proposed an intriguing challenge, “Should you accomplish this feat, I will orchestrate your marriage with my daughter and bestow upon you half of my kingdom.

However, the task will be conducted under my vigilant eye, and you shall be attired in special garments for both work and travel.” Chatur Sonar, undaunted, accepted the challenge, commencing his craft the very next day.

The king assigned him the formidable task of crafting a gold idol of Lord Krishna. Chatur, a devout artist, initiated the work with an earnest chant of “Radhe Radhe.”

Days turned into nights as he meticulously shaped the idol, working tirelessly. By nightfall, he replicated the idol in brass within the confines of his home. This clandestine process persisted for about a week until both idols were impeccably ready.

Chatur Sonar then made an unusual request for fresh yogurt in the evening, a rarity as it was primarily consumed in the morning. Undeterred by the challenge, the guards were commanded to procure the elusive fresh yogurt.

While accompanying the guards, Chatur seized the opportunity when he spotted a young Girl selling the sought-after yogurt. In a deft move, he surreptitiously placed the gold idol in the yogurt pot, skillfully retrieving it to make it gleam.

Summoning his gold expert, the king inquired, “How much gold is in this idol?”

To everyone’s astonishment, the gold expert responded, “There is no gold in this idol.”

Bewildered, the king summoned Chatur with the pot and queried, “How did you achieve this in my presence?”

With a subtle hesitation, Chatur unveiled his ingenious plan. “The girl selling yogurt was my sister. I had concealed a brass idol within the yogurt pot beforehand. Before your very eyes, I substituted the gold idol with the brass one, and you remained oblivious. That’s why People called the goldsmith as clever.”

Impressed by Chatur’s artful strategy, King Madhav Singh upheld his promise. He orchestrated the marriage between his daughter and Chatur Sonar, endowing him with half of the kingdom.

This narrative imparts the wisdom that cleverness and strategic thinking can surmount seemingly insurmountable challenges.
