# My Journey to Self-Discovery #

Daily writing prompt
On what subject(s) are you an authority?

Hello dear friends,
I hope this blog finds you in a cheerful mood and a reflective spirit.

Today’s writing prompt stirred something deep within me: “On what subject(s) are you an authority?”

At first, the word authority felt grand, meant for scholars, scientists, or CEOs.

However, I came to understand that authority isn’t only about titles or awards. It’s based on lived experiences, lessons learned over time, and wisdom gained through life.

So, allow me to humbly share the subjects on which I believe I’ve earned some authority—not through academic degrees, but through observation, introspection, resilience, and passion.

After spending decades immersed in the world of finance and banking, I retired with a suitcase full of numbers but a heart hungry for meaning.

Retirement, for many, is a cliff—a sudden stillness. For me, it became a canvas. I discovered writing, art, and video creation—not as hobbies, but as pathways to express my soul.

I transformed from a banker to a storyteller, poet, painter, and dreamer.

I now speak with authority on how one can rediscover oneself after retirement. I am living proof that life begins again when you give yourself permission to be curious.

I write not for recognition but to breathe fully and inspire others to explore new passions.

Over the past year, I have written hundreds of blog posts, painted vivid artworks, composed poetry, and created heartfelt short videos.

In doing so, I’ve learned something valuable: Creativity isn’t a gift, it’s a discipline.

I know what it takes to show up daily, even when inspiration hides. I understand the silence of blank pages and the quiet triumph of clicking “publish.”

Through trial, practice, and reflection, I’ve learned to trust my inner voice. I’ve learned that ideas are like fireflies—they appear at dusk, delicate and fleeting, but if you stay still and keep your jar ready, you’ll catch one.

In this space, I speak with conviction. If you ask me how to nurture creativity in later life, I have stories, techniques, and tips to share.

Life has tested me, as it does us all. I have faced health issues like thyroid imbalance, navigated emotional lows, and occasionally wandered into the valleys of self-doubt.

But I’ve also cultivated resilience—slowly, like a gardener nurturing a fragile plant.

Over the years, I’ve built a mental ecosystem where joy, gratitude, forgiveness, and reflection bloom. I can say I’m an authority on this not because I never falter—but because I know how to rise.

My writing often centers around emotional well-being, mindfulness, and the art of staying grounded.

Through my daily routines, nature walks, painting sessions, and blog reflections, I have created a sanctuary within.

Many of us fear getting older. However, I see my gray hair as a sign of wisdom and believe that aging is not a decline but a journey toward understanding.

I have often stated that a meaningful life is shaped not by a job, but by passion, relationships, kindness, and self-awareness.

From journaling and blogging to dancing, traveling, and sharing my stories—I’ve made retirement the most vibrant chapter of my life.

I believe I’m now an advocate for joyful aging and purposeful living. I want others in my generation to realize: You are not past your prime; you’re in the prime of your inner self.

Lastly, I’ve found my true voice in writing. I understand the alchemy of words—how they can touch hearts, soothe wounds, or spark action.

Whether it’s poetry or prose, reflections or fiction, I write not just to express—but to connect. This space, dear reader, is not a monologue. It is a dialogue between our souls.

In crafting stories and sharing truths, I’ve come to know the responsibility and influence that a single sentence can hold.

Authority doesn’t always shout; sometimes, it quietly speaks. It isn’t just about certificates; it’s reflected in the scars, smiles, and stories we hold.

So, if you ask me, “On what subject(s) are you an authority?” —I would smile and say:

I am an authority on becoming anew, on finding joy in ordinary days, on building meaning through art, and on living a soulful, purposeful retired life.

And so, dear friends, I invite you to reflect on your own quiet authorities. You may not know it, but the world needs your voice, your experience, your unique perspective.

Speak it. Share it. Live it.

With warmth and creativity,
(Vijay Verma)
