John Peterson had once been a man full of dreams, living a happy life with his beloved wife, Marie.
But fate had other plans. Twenty years ago, an accident took away his sight, plunging him into a world of darkness. Marie stood by his side, caring for him, promising to be his eyes in this cruel world. He trusted her completely, never doubting her love and devotion.
As time passed, John adapted to his new life, relying on Marie’s gentle guidance and unwavering presence.
He learned to navigate his surroundings, counting steps, feeling textures, and memorizing sounds. Yet, a deep longing remained—he yearned to see again, to witness the colors of the world he had left behind.
Then, a miracle happened.
After years of waiting, doctors finally offered him hope—an experimental treatment that could restore his sight. The risk was high, but John clung to the possibility of seeing again.
And against all odds, the treatment worked. One morning, after two decades in darkness, John opened his eyes and saw the world once more.
Tears welled up as he gazed at his own reflection, tracing the lines of age on his face. He wanted to scream with joy, to run to Marie and tell her.
But a thought struck him—why rush? Why not take his time to observe, to experience the world quietly before making his revelation?
And so, he kept his secret.
For three days, John lived in a silent observation of the life around him. He saw colors he had forgotten, details he had only imagined, and most importantly, he saw Marie—not just as a voice or a presence, but truly saw her.
And what he discovered shattered him.

Marie was not the devoted wife he had believed her to be. He noticed the way she spoke on the phone in hushed tones, her affectionate whispers meant for someone else.
He watched as she welcomed a stranger into their home, a man whose touch lingered too long on her skin. And then, in the dead of night, he overheard the conversation that changed everything.
“He still trusts me completely,” Marie murmured. “But I’m tired of waiting. If we do it this week, we can make it look like an accident. His money, his house—it’ll all be ours.”
John felt the walls of his world crumble. The woman he had loved, who had promised to stand by him, was plotting his death.
His blood ran cold. He clenched his fists, his breath shallow. It wasn’t just betrayal—it was a death sentence planned by the person he had cherished the most.
On their wedding anniversary, the day meant to celebrate love and commitment, John made a decision that would alter both their fates forever.
That evening, Marie prepared everything carefully. She poured his favorite wine, her eyes glinting with hidden malice. As she reached for the knife she had hidden behind the counter, ready to end his life, John spoke, his voice steady.
“I can see you, Marie.”
She froze. Her face drained of color as she turned to him, her mouth opening, searching for a lie, an escape.
“What are you saying?” she whispered.
“I can see everything,” John said, standing from his chair. “I saw you. I saw him. And I heard everything.”

Marie’s hands trembled. Desperation flickered in her eyes. “John, I—I was only—”
“Only what?” John interrupted, his voice cracking with emotion. “Only betraying me? Only planning to kill me? After twenty years, Marie! Twenty years I trusted you blindly—literally! And all this time, you were just waiting for the right moment to get rid of me?”
Tears filled Marie’s eyes, but John wasn’t sure if they were of regret or fear. “John, please… I still love you.”
“Love?” John laughed bitterly, his chest tightening with pain. “Was it love when you brought him into my house?
When you whispered to him the words that should have been mine? Was it love when you decided my life wasn’t worth living anymore?”
Marie took a step closer, but John backed away. “You don’t understand, John. I was desperate. I—”
“Enough!” His voice thundered through the room. “Don’t lie to me anymore. I’ve lived in darkness long enough. But now… now I see everything.”
Marie’s expression changed in an instant. Her lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes narrowing. The softness in her voice vanished as she sneered, “Fine. You want the truth? I never loved you. I pitied you. And I was tired of being trapped in this miserable life. If you had just stayed blind, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
John’s heart shattered. His entire life had been a lie. His hands clenched at his sides as he took a deep breath, his mind racing.
Before she could finish reaching for the knife, John acted. Rage and betrayal fueled him, years of blindness replaced by clarity sharper than ever.
The struggle was quick but brutal. When it was over, Marie lay lifeless on the floor, the knife in her hand now useless.

As the sirens wailed in the distance, John stood there, his breath steady. He had spent twenty years in darkness, believing in love that never existed.
And now, as he looked down at the woman who had betrayed him, he realized—perhaps, some truths are better left unseen.
