# Stay Fit This winter #

Friends,

The winter season has knocked on our door,

So, I want to share some information to enjoy this season and how to keep our body fit.

It is a fact that different seasons of the year bring with them unique benefits for the mind, body, and mood. And we can enjoy each season accordingly.

It is easier to wake up early in the morning during summer but it is a bit harder to do so in the winter.

When the matter comes to exercise during winter, first we have to motivate ourselves to get out of snug first. Exercise during winter can burn more calories than when exercising in the summer. Our stamina can also be increased in winter because our heart needs to do work less and experience sweat less, which makes our exercise more efficient.

There are so many types of exercise that can be useful to keep us fit in winter. Some of them are.

Jogging:

I usually start the day with a brisk walk and then some jogging exercise in the park nearby on daily basis.  This type of exercise is related to our cardiovascular activity that raises our heart rate which is helpful to prepare mentally and physically for the next exercise.

Stretching:

After a brisk walk and jogging, I take a few minutes to stretch out.  As I have read that stretching before and after exercise is beneficial to prepare our body muscles to tone up and protect themselves from injury and is recommended by experts also.

Yoga :

In yoga,  I prefer Surya Namaskar.  It is also known as sun salutation and is considered as a complete body workout. Surya Namaskar consists of eight different poses, which alternate in a 12-step sequence. It starts on the right side and must be done on both sides for a complete cycle.

I generally do 3-5 cycles gradually. It can be up to 11-21 and so on that depending upon the age of a person. Doing this sequence early in the morning increases our vitamin D levels and provides many other benefits for both physical and mental health. It also supports stress management, healthy eating, weight loss, and quality sleep.

 Breathing exercise:

I also do Pranayama i.e. a breathing exercise that gives me many health benefits for both the mind and body. In winter,  I do Kapalbhati Pranayama and anulom vilom Pranayama, It keeps our Lungs healthy..

Meditation

Meditation is my favorite exercise and I am doing it for a long time. There are many meditation techniques that we can practice regularly, such as Sthiti Dhyan, Svaas Dhyan, Aarambh Dhyan, etc. This is a simple and powerful meditation technique for developing positivity and relaxing the mind.

Prathama dhyana (prayer meditation) formation

1. Sit in any comfortable position.

2. Bring your palms together in front of your chest to form Pranam Mudra.

3. Straighten your back and close your eyes.

4. Form and repeat positive statements aloud or silently. It gives the feeling of relaxation of the mind and body in the form of anandasana.  It is true that relaxing our body is just as important as exercising because it gives our body the opportunity to rest, recover, and rejuvenate.

Anandasana can be done after completing the physical exercise, when we feel tired of exercise it helps to completely relax our body. This pose requires focusing on our breathing. We should try to breathe deeper and faster during Anandasana.

Swimming:

Swimming is also one of the best exercises. Getting started in swimming is easy. It is a sport for all age groups, skills,s and fitness levels. Before I got started, I purchased a pair of swimming suits and goggles.

I have got an opportunity to learn to swim in the available swimming pool in the society where I reside.

I am enjoying swimming a lot and feel this is great exercise.

It is well-known fact that Swimming is a great workout because you need to move your whole body against the resistance of the water.

It is a good all-around activity because it keeps the heart rate up and

builds endurance, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness. It

helps in maintaining a healthy weight, and a healthy heart

tones muscle and builds strength.

Friends,

If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or Heart problems, then ask your doctor what type of exercise you can do. You may need to avoid certain postures or exercises.

A very gentle program of yoga, coupled with a light aerobic activity like walking or swimming may be the best way to keep fit during this winter season.

  3. I hadn’t thought of meditation as exercise but I do meditate sometimes. Currently I’m focused on increasing my walking. We have a big park near me with some pleasant walks. In the spring and summer it’s nice to wander around the walled garden and maybe sit and read
